If God came and smacked me...

In other words if there was 100% undeniable proof of the existence on a Christian God ie he came down and had a little chat - performed miracles - convinced me I wasn't going crazy - Why should he expect me to worship him?

Indeed whats wrong with considering him just like any other human - and treat him with the same respect? If one guy is smarter, kinder, funnier etc than another - I'd still try my best to treat them equally - imo id treat god the same way.

Why shouldn't I?

If there was undeniable proof that the Christian God, Yahweh, a creator God, existed, well, you wouldn't be alive without him. I would view that as reason enough. I suppose you could argue then that you don't worship your parents, despite them creating you. The simple fact is that with or without proof, if you don't want to worship God, you don't have to worship God. If you know that you're not going to worship God, even if he does prove his existence to you, why bother asking this question? You're only going to get answers that go around in circles.

Well, personally I think that while accepting Jesus is integral to going to heaven, if you've been a good person throughout life and accept that God is God once you die and are faced with him, he'd be nice enough to make exceptions.

That's a very... Unbiblical thought, though, from what I've heard. xD

Would you treat the leaders of your country as any other person? Been to any state dinners lately? If there is one person on this planet that you hold in a special regard or one person who you feel that should treat you with respect, like say your child, then why approach the Master and creator of the universe as you would some stranger on a bus?

The long and short of it is respect, whether you can acknowledge it or not the culture your apart of does indeed recognize authority and the respect power and position brings. Being the Alpha and Omega would seem to carry little more Authority than your average world leader.

I suppose I'm odd in the fact that I would purposefully do so yes. I try to judge people on their acts rather than their position. But I don't think this is your main point as there ARE people I respect more than others.

I tend to respect people that have overcome something difficult. Which god hasn't done coz he was born with omnipotence... but thats not my point - yea i'd probably respect the guy/girl enough for his knowledge and kindness etc. but I wouldn't worship him! I wouldn't ask him for forgiveness either etc.

One reason to worship (rather than merely honour) God might come from the command 'Do unto others'. In Christian theology there's something unusual about God that makes Him different from every other thing that exists. Whereas everyone else can always be tempted to do the wrong thing, God alone cannot be tempted (James 1:13). This means that if you lived in a town with someone like God in this respect then you could always get perfect advice from them about what to do. If you could have a leader like this then you would know that they would never fail to do what is right. So there's some sense in the idea of referring our decisions to God - assuming this is the case. And making it a rule to always check your decision with someone who cannot be tempted to do wrong sounds a lot like worshipping them.

In essence, because that's the cause of everything that is wrong in the world.

Humanity has a job to do - to be God's image in the world. It is because we make ourselves or some other created thing to be god instead that there is suffering, frustration, dissatisfaction, etc, in the world. Only by responding to God as is appropriate can we be who we are meant to be for ourselves and for all creation, fulfil our potential and be truely satisfied.

We aren't meant to be equal to God, and when we try to be we stuff everything else up.

Now, you don't have to get on board with that, but since God is determined to put all creation to rights, and that is only compatible with people put to rights, if you don't you exclude yourself. Those who don't wish to be part of God's Kingdom cannot be allowed to play dog-in-the-manger and deny justice and healing to the rest of creation indefinitely.

No need for God to anticipate. You will be persuaded and compelled to worship God.

1 Corinthians 14:24-25 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.

I think the real answer here is that, if God came and had that little chat, worked those miracles, you'd find yourself worshiping Him.

Res Ipse Loquitor, as the lawyers say. Sometimes "the thing speaks for itself."
Yes, I agree.

Jesus said, "Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God." John 8:46,7 "They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: For I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Matthew 9:12,13

It is impossible to compare the Messiah to any other human--Buddha, Muhammad, or Oprah.
