'If black then shoot': Released records show hateful messages from former police officer

New documents have been released surrounding the circumstances that caused a former police officer to resign from his job.

Jefferson County Mike O’Connell has released private Facebook messages, including racist memes and rants, sent by Todd Shaw, a former assistant police chief in Prospect, Kentucky.

“If black, then shoot,” one of the messages read.

Because .... racism. Which, by the way, is exclusive to white people. After all, no other race has a single person who is racist. Not a one.

Because he was an assistant police chief, an officer for years, in the position of influencing other officers. It shows a culture of disrespect for black people and disregard for black life, but for black people to point out racist or even unnecessarily agressive behavior it is seen as playing the race card or a disrespect for authority.

He is in a position to determine the fate of people he actively hates. Society is structured to believe the word of a uniformed officer over the average citizen, let alone those seen as less desirable or "inherently criminal", so there is often no justice, even with video proof.

Then when you have people falsely accused, it inflates crime stats, making it appear there is an above average problem with certain citizens. Then you multiply this by all the other similar situations that come to light, and add to that the ones we never learn about.

This type of information is necessary when the public is making future decisions as to whether or not to accept police narratives unquestioningly and with blind faith, or to ask probing questions and seek clarification or additional proof.

That's why it is news.

yeah man, I guess the hip hop gagsta group N.W.A. said it best years ago when I was a rebellious teenager. Ice T took an interesting career twist, from "cop killer" rhyming to stardom on Law & Order: SVU as Fin. Anyway, there will always be a need for reforming in law enforcement, because there will always be prejudiced people coming and going, and awareness is important, but also I think we should be careful how we paint our law enforcement and also recognize the good, and not get so caught up in the corruptions, that we cannot see the light of day. I used to have a negative view of law enforcement, but came to see them in a different light, especially after God performed His miraculous work of regeneration in me, changing everything.

The only negative view I have of police are of bad and corrupt cops.
