  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can't believe that, as far as we've come, arachnophobia is still alive and well in the 21st century!

It's not arachnophobia, it's standing your ground.

Arachnophobia is alive and well in our house for most...just not me...I only kill spiders when I want rain, but I am not superstitious but that is for a different topic. They don't bother me...in my house, it is a female fear thing. All the females are a afraid of spiders including the female cat. The male cat is not afraid of anything that moves, if it moves it is a toy meant to be played with.

That was a veiled joke I made. :)

I used to work for Terminix but I still HATE spiders. They gave me the willies before working for Terminix and the willies remained after I left Terminix. I always felt like Indiana Jones when he was in the cave covered with webs and spiders when I had to go into web infested crawlspaces. I was not like calm Indiana Jones but like the other guy freaking out. Bees and spiders were the two things I despised and still do.

We have these enormous dock spiders where the females are larger than the males...these spiders are so large that they are the width of an 8inch board on our dock and their bodies are more than 3inches in length. The pictures I have tried to find just don't do justice to their size for the ones we have. They like to live on the floats under our dock. We never see more than two living there at a time...male and female. You never see them stray to far from the dock or from the water.

I used to play with spiders in east LA as a kid. In the basement were many Black Widows--I put a box down there and there were nests in it and I would stick my hands in there and have them crawl all over me---I thought Black Widows were really pretty and I didn't know they were poisonous. I never got bit. I never can kill a Black Widow--I will take a broom and brush them back outside. Now that I'm old and wise, I would probably get bit.
This threads just proves a lot of people don't read the posts as you have already given the answer but people se still guessing---

That is an impressive beast.

People should be nice to spiders, they are on your cleaning staff, reducing the number of germy insects in your house.

what would you do with that one?
