What if I find a similar rock, and break it apart? Also, I don't have a geology hammer. Just a normal one. And a bigger normal one.
You don't need a rock hammer. You will likely mar a regular hammer a bit, but that does not mean that you can't use them.
I'll post pics when I get back up there, find a similar rock, and crack it apart.
Cool, and if possible as accurate of a location on a topographic map would help. I assume that this is not in your own backyard so you would not be giving out personal information.
I found a rock...

RockCan somebody explain why this rock looks this way? Frankly, I find it suspicious. And to keep this relevant to the C&E section, I'd like the young earthers to take a go at this as well.
They are quartz veins but other than that I have no idea about it. I don't know how that stuff forms either.
Is there any chance of finding the bigger piece of rock that this came off of?
Southern Arkansas. On a mountain. No water or river flows nearby.
Our first young earth explanation!
I'm really more sad about the prospect of breaking my rock....
Hey juvenissun, did you attend a few geology lectures lately?
How dare you.....
No, but thank you.The photo in the OP looks to me to be some kind of sandstone. However I could very easily duplicate that and it wouldn't be hard to do.
I also notice it's very clean, did you wash it?
