• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I suffer with depression a lot and am currently working through some struggles.
I am not on medication as the doctors have never seemed to want to give me any. Dont know why. I have had suicidal thoughts and just want to cry all time.

I have stopped seeing my mental health nurse as all she said was do more things socially to fill your time up.

Just wondering how other people have coped or any ideas on where to go next. I was thinking of looking for a christian counsellor.

I'd definately recommend finding a counselor or therapist that you can talk to about this. Especially since you are having suicidal thoughts. Medication may be a good thing to give a try, because depression is supposedly not our fault. It's a chemical imbalance in our brain that can be triggered by various things. Talking to someone may definately be the key though. The trick is to find someone who you can "click" with, who will see you through until you feel better about yourself again. You will know when you have found the right person for you to talk to.

If you want to, feel free to PM me and I will do my best to help!

Find a counselor who works with a psychiatrist. That way, should medication be appropriate, you will not have to start all over from square one with a new Doc. It is not uncommon to have to shop around a little to find the right therapist for you. Clearly the mental health nurse is not going to cut it!

Just don't put off getting yourself the help you need.

hey
yeah, I guess finding a Christian counselor would be a good thing :)
then, you could do things like...
sports, healthy food (plus: drink a lot), listening to music w/ good lyrics (eg worship =) music w/ Christian lyrics can lift me up so much =)), running to the throne (to God=))
readin the bible, psalms r great..... try psalm 34 this one's AWESOME :)

maybe you know this book called YES-you're eternally secure? well at the end it says
something like
next time you feel like the world is breaking down, walk up that hill [golgatha] in your mind, hold the nails in your hands, touch the blood-soaked earth & remember what He's done for you. Think about it if He loves you this much, don't ya think He's waiting there for you to give Him your heart, problems, questions, sins.....
we've just dealt with depression at school, and it could be a chemical imbalance, but aswell eg. something you are or were real sad bout and didn't or don't manage to deal with..

oh, and I'm not depressed, but it sometimes helped me to really push away bad thoughts, give them to God, remember these sayins like
watch over your thoughts, you become what they are
and think no, that's not what I wanna be, I'm kickin this stuff away...
think about positive alternatives...

n if you ever wanna talk, you can contact me =)
 wishin u allll the best !!!!!

First, those doctors need to seek help themselves if they haven't put you on meds or given you a counselor...yes, seek help from a christian counselor...that will help a lot...if that doesn't help, it could be chemical and meds might help, look at the options and don't let them just push you around.

Talk to a counsellor, a Christian counsellor may be of help, or a regular counsellor may do the trick, but whatever you choose, choose to talk to someone. The pain will heal eventually but you need to figure out what is triggering it, and learn how to heal from whatever it is that is making you depressed, and talking about it....with someone you are comfortable talking to, who is proffessional, will heal the pain and the darkness in time. Good luck, God bless!

I agree with all the other posts about medication and counselling. This is a disease that you can manage with medication, exercise, good nutrition, prayer and fellowship. Be sure you stay in touch with your friends and prayer group or fellowship group. Also, please be aware that some people inherit this disease from their family of origin. I have other people in my family who are also depressed. There **is** a biological basis for it, so don't feel ashamed or guilty.

Take care and blessings on you.

Thanks everyone.
I do feel as though i need something as it is affecting work. I do work in a christian place but do not feel supported.
I dont like any of my doctors though, they are very funny so dont know how to access these things. i suppose i would have to go back to my doctors. for the past few months i havent been able to cry but now I just cry all the time or try to stem it whilst at work.
I do not have any friends my own age as moved up to new area and no one in my church my age and i have got told off for talking about things at work Which was only the once (saying i was lazy).
When i meet with my group leader it most often or not gets cancelled as everyone is so busy.

I hate feeling like this.
