I think that's a great idea because many churches don't have a ministry that meets the need of young adults!
at our church we have a bible study and we cover various topics that deal with the life of a young adult, we got our material through gospel publishing from the Assemblies of God, it's real cool you might want to check that out. every second sat we hang out, we'll have dinner and a movie night, hang out at one of the leaders house and eat and veg out, beach, hiking, bowling, and we also have 2 retreats a year this year we did our summer retreat in San Felipe in Baja it was awesome! and our winter retreat was in Tahoe! I think making it interesting and fun is what will draw them...keep us posted!

I'd recommend digging deep into the Scriptures and really challenging their minds and faith where they're at. So often I'm a part of a youth/college group that just serves up fluffy messages that don't stretch me as a believer. perhaps this is something you could try to do?

Doing a scavenger hunt is fun, but adding a twist like a video scavenger hunt or a picture scavenger hunt where the teams have to record themselves doing funny things at different places or with different people...

Our group meets once a week and does a study. Your church leadership should be able to provide good resources if you aren't ready to lead an in-depth bible study.

We also try to get together at least once a month for fun time. Watch a movie, play games, bowling, pool, volleyball, cookout, etc.

Look for ways to serve - both the church and the community. Soup kitchen and ministries like that are a great thing for young adults to do together.

These things seem to help our group grow and remain close.

Being a leader of young adult ministries, I have come to a few conclusions concerning this matter.
1. Make sure you are not preaching to them. Get everyone involved in the discusion. Young adults really like to give their opinions on things, especially when it comes to their faith. If you are a leader, mediator, whatever, group discusions and not sermons seem to be the key.
2. Make sure that the church is aware of the problem concerning young adults attendance at church and need for this ministry. Churches around the country, have had a steady decline in attendance of people 18-29. Almost a 48% decline. Also most of them are not being recognized as the new leaders of the church, or body of Christ.
3. Make the classes, study, etc... as exciting and to the point as possible. In my experience, young adults seem to have the attention span of a spider monkey. (being 28 myself I know this first hand)
4. Let them know that they are wanted inthe church. I know there are the people that will look at you and ask "Oh havent seen you for a while, I thought the roof was going to fall in when you showed up" Some people just don't see the hurt in there comments. You have to be the person that steps up and lets them know that you have been praying for them and make them feel accepted no matter what their background is.
5. Following the points made in 4. Really make an effort to know these people. Try to plan a couple activities that will be fun for everyone. We try to do theme parties. (I.E. an 80's party, beach party, etc...) You have to plan pretty far in advance for these type of things, as young adults usually have a pretty busy schedule.

Well I hope that either helped you in your mission, or you got a good nap after readin this. God bless you in this ministry, and don't give up on them.

I am the leader of my local YA group. We tend to hit up the skatepark every now and then. We Go out to eat after services a lot. We did the Nooma video serise for Bible study last year, which was great. We karaoke, hike, scavenger hunt, do unnecessarily dangerous stuff at times, camp. I guess we pretty much do a lot of things that youth groups do, or that they would like to do but can't for liability reasons.
