  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everyone

I'm currently completing my last year of school and I do art as a subject. I have to do a major work but it doesn't just have to look good, it has to have a meaning behind it/raise an issue. for example:

the roles of women in society
my life so far
poverty
etc etc

do any of you have any ideas for issues i could raise? I'd like my work to have a positive meaning. I know how I'm going to make my work - its going to be three vertical rectangular canvases lined up and i'm going to do bright colours with acrylic paints, spray paint and maybe ink. It will sort of look like graffiti.

any ideas will be appreciated! thanks.

You might back up and decide what the "issue" will be before deciding what medium will suit it best. Going with the Triptych (spelled right?) graffiti painting would work well for a poverty issue... maybe put yourself in the shoes of someone who might be feeling anger at the way their life is going, etc... and paint it with emotion, being sure to stop every time you are drawn into the piece itself and lose the anger.

When I read your thread's title, I immediately thought of a mosaic using broken pieces of colored glass... it would signify broken-ness, obviously, but also poverty or women's issues (domestic abuse?) Anyway, I have a BA in painting, so I was surprised that my first inclination was to go with a mosaic... I've never even done a mosaic! LOL
