Ideas for a Christian Novel

I enjoy writing novels. I have this plan on writing a Christian novel that aims to spread the greatness of God. I am planning to post this on a site like FictionPress.com for the whole world to see.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions for the plot of the novel? I'd be glad to consider them Also, do you think it's better to write in first person or third person?

The plot should be your own. I prefer writing third person, but that is just my preference. Whichever suits you best is fine.

Asking others for a plot isn't going to get you anywhere. If you don't come up with it on your own it's only going to seem forced.

I'd go with third person, simply because some editors and publishers don't like stories written in first person. Most won't discard a first person tale out-of-hand, but why start with one strike against you?

Whenever someone asks for ideas to fill out an otherwise totally unformed plot, I generally suggest that they take three random objects or events and combine them into something meaningful. Yours are: 1. Superbowl Sunday, 2. Atticus Finch, and 3. photovoltaic cells. Have fun.

I have had zero interest in most explicitly Christian books. Why? Because if I want doctrine I'll look to the experts, not a fiction writer.

My suggestion is pick a plot that works in a non Christian context and then use a Christian character to illuminate the plot to show how that characters faith influences their decisions.

Thinkinf of the TV show House I recall that often he solves his cases becaseu somethgin else triggers a line of thought. You might use the same thign with your Christian character, but have the triggers be explicitly Christian. The character is then obviously inspired by their faith, but the reader is not beaten over the head with God taking part in things. Is God taking part or not? AH that is for the reader to decide. (If you are really good yuo can use this to also show Christian Doctrine , but not in a preachy way.

For ideas I would use a mind map. Circle one word that would be your central theme. Maybe it is Salvation then bubble out your characters from that theme, and then bubble out there personalities and how those that experienced Salvation changed them ect.

Take your own life experience but write it in the first person as though it were about your "hero" in the novel. If you have been bullied write about this experience but tell it from the perspective of your character. It doesn't have to be exactly like what happened to you just stretch the story to include other situations. Like if you are bullied your character might be a political prisoner who was "bullied" by the government. You can take an experience from your own life and stretch this into a story line.
