  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

An appeals court panel has partly upheld an anti-trafficking law passed in Idaho last year that prohibits people from transporting minors outside of the state to get an abortion.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals released an opinionMonday mostly allowing the state law against abortion trafficking of a minor, known as Idaho Code § 18-623, to go into effect.

The ruling affirmed in part and reversed in part the district court’s preliminarily injunction enjoining Idaho’s abortion trafficking statute and remanded it back to the lower court for further proceedings. The law can mostly go into effect while the lawsuit against it continues.

I really, really wish they would choose another word besides "trafficking" to describe this. "Trafficking" implies that the minor is being kidnapped and forced to have an abortion against her will. That's not the situation being addressed. If speakers dilute the meaning of the word "trafficking", we won't have a word to describe actual enslavement.

The legislators could make a case for requiring parental consent without using this word.
