Is anyone familiar with this website/company/service? I'm trying to set up an account with them and they want all of my info including a picture of my SS card. Is this service legit? They say I need it to access the IRS website. Has anyone else done this?

I did some online sleuthing around about it, using the tools I generally use when considering any company.

I ran the website through safeweb.norton.com, and Norton says they're safe (Report for https://www.id.me/ | Norton Safe Web).

I then looked them up at the Better Business Bureau, and while they are a BBB Accredited business, they have a B rating, and the customer reviews rank them at 1.11 out of 5 stars (there's an average of 773 customer reviews, and plenty of complaints)

Web of Trust (WOT) gives them "green" rating, ranked at 3.1 out of 5 stars, with one anonymous comment submitted stating "A horrible company. Works with the government to force facial recognition usage on Americans. Do not trust and do not use."

Meanwhile, their Facebook Page seems to have lots of complaints in the comments and in the Mentions section, including a post on June 8th from New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez expressing his concerns and sharing an article from Business Insider confirming those concerns regarding the company's issues.

Personally, don't have a good feeling about this particular company.

Thanks for this info, I read some of the complaints and Oh my goodness this person's experience is identical to mine! That's exactly what I experienced. I spent 2 hours on that till I just gave up. I'll have to finish it later. I wish this wasn't necessary or that they made the process easier.

I wanted to open and acct. with the IRS. You canNOT believe the hoops you have to jump through with IDme. I did EVERYthing I was asked to do. Their system said the picture of my driver's license wasn't clear but it was!! It was very clear and readable. Since they would not accept that (something THEY requested), I had to resort to clicking on a link so I could take a "selfie" so, I did that, and...the screen kept spinning and spinning, then....somehow, when I went back to the log in, they had somehow signed me up for a video conf. which was even worse!! They wanted documents after documents....it was ludicrous!!! Go and try to open an acct. with the IRS if you don't believe me. It is awful!!! It's time consuming and degrading and frustrating. It took me two days and I STILL do not have an account with the IRS!!!! Someone needs to do something about this!! I have NEVER experienced anything like this and the lack of customer service is appalling!!!! There is none!! NO expedient customer service AT ALL!!!"
