What was learned from the icon?
The Seventh General Council and the Doctrine of Icons
Conference in the Jerusalem Chamber,
Westminster, December 2, 1918.

The Sanctification of Matter through the Incarnation.
Of old God the uncircumscribed could not be portrayed.
The Incarnation was a condescension to our nature.
We are as God made us, with bodies and senses.
Christ came that we might apprehend God through the material Image of His human nature: He Whom, as St. John says, we have seen and heard and handled.
Thus it has come to pass that we can approach Him through the noblest of our senses; we can portray the God Whom we have seen.

I don't think non-Anglicans are allowed to participate in debate in an Anglican forum, according to the congrgation forum guidelines. Non-members are only allowed to post in fellowship, the way that I understand it.

(not an official "mod-hat" post, I'm just a mod in training right now! :p )

That was definitely the rule when I was modding.

Just a reminder, the CWGs read:
NOTE: Some congregational forums have opted not to have a forum-specific guideline with a Statement of Faith to identify members. In general, this means that non-members may join the discussions in these forums. However, if you do not self-identify as that denomination or group, please remember that you are a guest in their forum, and act accordingly.

I'm an evangelical (non-Anglican) and I could see why evangelical brothers and sisters in the Anglican tradition would find them useful. I personally do not use them. though I think they are pretty. It's nothing I have against them, I just don't see the need for them in my own prayer life. I have never viewed the COE as inconoclast, not even for more low-churches. They simply seem to have a different emphasis. That's all.

^^ agreed, apart from the non-Anglican bit ;).
