Feel free to be in touch, there are a handful of us who have had a calling to live vowed lives within the Salvation Army, but we are scattered all over the world and not in touch with each other at the moment. We had been within the (mainly Anglican) Third Order Soc St Francis, and at least one in one of the Ecumenical Franciscan Orders I think. I just came out of TSSF at the end of the novitiate because the order couldn't handle the Salvation Army's stand on eucharist. I love communion, but can quite happily live without it, as I really do feel that the whole of life is sacramental.
In fact, all Salvationists are effectively under a vowed life (to whatever extent they consider them vows and this varies with the culture/view of the congregation and the minister) as in becoming a member we sign the Articles of War. Some regard this as a vocation, and a life-time's calling in its own right, (but we wouldn't be reproachful to people who leave for other churches later on.) Others view them as promises and hold that God may call them elsewhere in time.
Just being an ordinary member, a soldier, is a vocation enough for most! Many Salvationists feel specific sense of calling and many have pioneered ministries, in an accountable and mentored way. The Salvation Army is a hierarchical church but has, at least at times in its history, tried to encourage every member to develop a ministry.
We are an unusual, and beautiful (I think!) part of the body of Christ, and I love the army to bits, despite its imperfections. :0)
I have just asked the army to receive my vocation as a (Franciscan) Sister. If they do not I will be able to continue quietly under private vows, which is fine with me. I absolutely love being with this part of the church. If you are searching around, look freely, and may your journey be blessed and a blessing to others.
Tell us a little about the Silesians?
Warmest blessings
