• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Trust issues, are just one of the main factors of Self Harm, trying to find a good counsellor who deals in it is hard if the root or one of the root problems is trust related. If this is one of your issues of Self harm, then you do need to say to the counsellor on the first visit, I struggle with trusting people. Any counsellor, Psychiatrist whatever will then take a different approach to your need, rather than them diving in straight at the Self harm issue, they will work first on building a trusted relationship up.

I've got some huge trust issues and I have not seen a counselor in a while now! I just can't anymore! It wasn't helping me... however some people it does help!

I wonder if therapy with an actual therapist or psychologist or psychiatrist works. I'm been playing around with the idea of going to one for several months. I have a LOT of trust issues. Sometimes I think I need to. Other times I don't. Anything anyone could give me on this topic would be good. I'm really struggling with it.
I have found that many therapists have no idea, I have met one or two that walk their talk. You may have to see a couple - shop around so to speak.

I went to uni and got my degree in psych b/c of the gap I found when I was practicing SI and basically losing the plot every 6 months or so. At uni I discovered why that gap exists - but that's a long story for another thread. These gaps motivated me to study and to apply what I learnt into my own life. I used meds for a year, and self-medicated with ganja throughout uni, my honours and the part of my masters i stayed for.

Now I work online, and do communicty and online courses towards becoming a life coach/counselor, so that one day soon I will be in a position for someone such as you (and the past me).

All the best with the sourcing, there are some professionals out there that really want to make a differnce. As for the others, just walk away, they have theri own pain to cope with.
