  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wonder how God...

will handle people in heaven that don't like each other.

Of course I've gotten the expected response, "Thats not going to be a problem. Everybody in heaven will love each other."

Yeah, I don't doubt that, but God has only commanded his people to love one another. Nowhere have I seen him telling his people it is necessary to like them as well.

Why wouldn't they like each other? Everyone will be perfectly sinless in heaven. The ability to hate or dislike each other is the tenet sin, and we will be free from sin.

How can you love someone you don't like? What you just described really isn't Christian love at all, but worldly love. Not wanting to be around them is a form of self-seeking, and as we know, Love is not self-seeking. I am an expert in worldly love, and have practiced it for many many years. It's selfish and cold.

Not liking people, annoyance, etc., is all a result of sin. So I don't think we will "not like" each other...

Love is not a feeling. Biblical love is a conscious choice to put someone else's needs above your own. "liking" IS a feeling. It is VERY possible to love someone, with out "liking" them.

Again...worldly love. Love is not conscious, but led by the Spirit. Love is spiritual if anything.

If I give a homeless person my sandwich even though I am hungry, that is not love...for love is so much more than that. You're confusing love with charity.

I see you're married...so let's go ahead an play "end game":

Your wife and child(ren), whom you love both dearly, are drowning and you can only save one of them. Which one do you save?

Dear oktornado. In Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus tells a Lawyer: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself." Jesus tells us also: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." This is very enlightening. God wants our Love, freely given and No
conditions tagged on. What do we do? We treat all we know, and all we meet,
friends or not friends, we treat them as we would love to be treated. Jesus does not tell us LIKE, Jesus tells us Love. God is Love and God wants Loving children/sons and daughters. Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love, also. Jesus told us to: Love and Receive, and in Matthew 7: 7-10: we ask God for Love, then we thank God
and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour. God will see our sincere efforts and God will bless us. We keep asking God, and thanking God and sharing all Love and Joy with all around us. A Christian`s great weapon is Love, and with Love we will overcome all enmity and wrong behaviour. We might stumble and forget at times, but then we ask God to forgive us and carry on Loving and Caring.
Jesus our Saviour will help and guide us: JESUS IS THE WAY. The Bible tells us to " Repent," and to " Be Born Again." We ask God to forgive us all our sins and transgressions, and prove by showing our Love for God and for our neighbour, that we do repent and change into the men and women which God wants us to become. We might never be perfect while living in this imperfect world, but God will know our hearts and God will not be mocked,God will Know. I say this with love, oktornado. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.
