If God “cannot” lie (which He doesn’t) then how do you interpret “ALL” when Jesus said, “With God ALL things are possible.” Does all mean all or does it mean something else?

I realize we will never come to an agreement on whether God “cannot lie” (Titus 1.2 NKJV) or “does not lie” (Titus 1.2 NIV, NLT), but I am of the opinion that God can do anything. “With God ALL things are possible.”

The scriptures to my mind clearly indicate that with God ANYTHING is possible. believe the crunch comes in the choce that is made. I wonder how people would explain away that Lucifer/Satan was made by God, yet he is now fallen. Where/how could Satan turn from God if he was created perfect. That is something that has always puzzled me in this regard/type of debate.

If they are, God sent a “lying spirit” to tell a lie to the king's prophets. It appears to me that at least in this case God told a lie. (Or at least commissioned the telling of one)

Hi guys. I don't know how many of you remember a thread a while back on whether or not God can lie. I argued that God could indeed lie but that he did not. I was very wrong. God can't lie. sorry to you all for expressing what was not truth.

I agree with you, God can not lie.

Two reasons why.

1. It is not in His character to do so.

2. Everything He speaks comes to past. That is how He creates. So if He said something that was not true. From the moment He said it, it would then be truth.

That's like saying that because God breathes life that it's God's fault when the unmarried guy and gal who decide to have sex get pregnant.

God used a spirt that lie's. God told the spirit "go with them or go to them". The spirit, being the lyer that it is was merely did what it does.

God used a spirt that lie's. How is that God doing the lying? He just told the spirit "go with them or go to them". The spirit, being the lyer that it is was merely used.

Actually, it appears that this was intended to reopen the debate. But if you say it wasn’t, I’ll have to take your word for it (though suspicion lingers).

And, you do not have to admit a “mistake” to me or anyone else so long as you haven’t personally offended us.

IMO, you still have a way to go before you properly resolve this issue. You could be abandoning the truth for an, um, less-than-the-truth based on the faulty reasoning of people who cannot accept the fact that with God ALL things are possible, just like Jesus said.

But, if you say you’ve seen the light, okay … (but it could be the light at the end of a railroad tunnel).

He could wipe out this planet with the snap of His finger saying, “I brought you into this world and I can take you out” … but He doesn’t. Why? Because of His character. That’s what I put my trust in: God’s character, not in His inability.

The whole idea that God cannot lie is built on one scripture, Titus 1.12, in select older translations of the Bible, e.g. KJV/NKJV, but more modern translations (e.g. NIV, NLT) renders the verb “cannot” (i.e., powerless) to “DOES not” (making truthfulness an act of the Divine will, not because God is unable, powerless to do otherwise). God tells the truth because He is the truth.

Actually, I'm not sure that it isn't His character to take the stance "I brought you into this world and I'll take you out". He took exactly that stance with Sodom and Gomorah but as Abraham pointed out to Him it was not His nature to destroy the righteous with the unrighteous.

He also took the stance several times with Moses and the Children of Israel. Again though, it was the unrighteous that were seperated out and only they were destroyed.

It is within His nature to spare the Righteous, not the unrighteous.

God tells the truth because He is the truth.

Well, my Bibles (NIV, NLT) say that “God does not lie”. It does not say he “cannot” lie. Apparently your preferred translation readsl like that but mine says “doesn’t”, not can’t. God can do anything, because all things are possible with God, but He doesn’t do all things because it is not in His nature to do evil. I am surprised that I am having to defend God’s ability to do all things with someone who has one of those Word of Faith shields as an avatar.

Go figure.

Isn’t the important thing: God will not lie? Whether he can or can’t is not what we place our trust in. I place my trust in the fact that God will not, does not lie. Whether He can or can’t is beside the point – unless, of course, winning an insignificant argument (i.e., having to be right) is what is important to you.
