I believe the Mario/Zelda games Extirpated Wildlife is refering to are the fun ones like Super Mario World and Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. Good luck getting anything like those for the xbox (or gamecube, or playstation.)

Basically, your only options are:

1) Get an NES/SNES and the games you like.
2) Get a GBA w/ TV output adapter and play the GBA Mario/Zelda games (which are just the old ones re-done) or other games like these (Wario Land 4 is very good!) on your TV.
3) Get a Gamecube and Game Boy Player (more expensive, but "authorized" and with marginally better tech. support.)
4) Get an NES/SNES emulator and modify your xbox so you can run it.

As an aside, I've played "Vexx" for the PS2, and it did not have good control, to say the least! How on Earth they managed to make the controls worse than Mario64 I'll never know! IMO, stay away from this game! I'm just lucky I rented it rather than buying it...

I know it doesn't help E.W. much, but, also on the Playstation2, there's a game called Klonoa: Empire of Dreams which is very fun. It uses "3D" polygons like other PS2 games, but the gameplay is only left, right, up and down, like the pre-N64 Marios. Highly recommended!

And for those of you who liked Oddworld, try the two for the Playstation. They're much better.

God bless and happy gaming!

The Xbox is not the best system for Mario like games. The GBA has Super Mario World, the GBC Super Mario Bros (GB/GBC games can be played on GBA. It's very common and it shouldn't be too hard to find a used copy), Super Mario Bros 2, Yoshi's Island, and Super Mario Bros 2, and is fairly cheap, so it's probably your best bet for Mario goodness. If you get a GameCube and GameBoy player, you can play Super Mario Sunshine (which I heard alot of really good things and some complaints about) too.

I heard some good things about Rayman 3. I think it's on Xbox. It heard it's very good, but not as good as Rayman 2 (which I don't think is on Xbox). Rayman 3 is a platform game with some Mario like elements, though it is a bit different from Mario. I only played the first two Rayman games, so I'm not sure if I can recommend the third one.

This is an awesome Mario type game. Great graphics, and control. I had it for a little while, but online play, just totally took over.
Goto a trading place of games, you should find a copy for about 30$ used.
Vex is not a Mario type game... It's more like Sonic with claws, crossed with Croc or something...

It sounds like someone needs a Gamecube... The Wind Waker is awesome

Couldn't agree more!!!

I think that thats the beauty of nintendo although they may be kiddish at times they have a lot of exclusive titles that nobody else has.

I really cant think of anything for xbox like mario or zelda, but if i find anything ill let you know.

The great thing about the gamecube is that its inexpensive so you wont have to put as much money away.

Im a Gamecube fan...its clear to see...but i also don't want any hostilities
between us console owners. I didnt mean the quote to be offensive but i definatly agree with it.

A Gamecube or Gameboy Advance would be fine. It is because Mario is owned by Nintendo and they only put their games on their own consoles. It is a way to encourage customers to buy their customers.
A GameCube is relatively cheap now, but if you want portability then the GBA is recommended.

It is very hard to find games like Mario on other consoles as they sort of have a unique quality about them. :sorry:

Xbox is mostly a type of system for more older gamers. But there is some games that I have either played or heard of that are somewhat like Mario. Oddworld: Munches Odysee, Vexx, Voodoo Vince(not very close to mario, but it's a platformer like mario) Blinx: The Timesweeper, and another game that is not really like mario but you might want to give it a try is Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. It has a great gaming style that you might enjoy.
