The latest from the pope on twitter:

"@Pontifex: At the end of the year, we pray that the Church, despite her shortcomings, may be increasingly recognizable as Christ’s dwelling place"

Did the popoe just say his church had shortcomings? ;)

Although he did use the word "shortcomings" he actually did not mean the English equivalent of "shortcomings" as commonly understood by most people who speak and read English. He actually used an arcane Latin word which really means "short comings". There was a typographical inconsistency (please note that this should not be construed as an error, but merely an inconsistency) in the transcription from Latin. If properly understood in the Magesterial sense of the word, what the Pope really is saying is that the church has short comings as well as long comings. The short comings are less desirable than the long comings and the Church prefers that its homilies be longer so that it might be increasingly recognizable as Christ's dwelling place. ;)

Title "I thought Rome was infallible" Problem is you thought wrong.
It's when speaking Ex cathedra‎, that it's called Papal infallibility.
I really wish people would understand that.

Not that it's supported by scripture or anything....

In other words - it's less than perfect.

hello

I think he ment that while the Church is the Bride of Christ
the Church is also filled with people, people who are in constant need of reform
We all need to try and follow Christ, to pick up the cross and follow Him daily
sometimes we fail at this

I would recomend you try and learn more about what the Catholic Church teaches about Infalibilty
infallible is not impeccable
impeccable means sinless or perfect

Infallible means "incapable of failing". Think on that a while... Impeccable means "without spot or blemish". Neither word can be applied to the RC church, especially with all of the sexual sins perpetrated by the priests. Sorry, but the RC doesn't get a free pass on that. They have much to answer for, and the only way is to quit trying to hide it and cover it up, but rather ruthlessly root it out, from bottom to top.

the RCC should not get a pass on that, you are right.

AMEN, this problem does need to get rooted out from the bottom up.

I will not try to debate or teach Catholic dogma in the baptist forum, that would be very rude of me
I know what the Catholic Church teaches about infalibility, if you want to know more you can PM me, or make a thread in OBOB or GT where I can talk about it openly

also, to all my brothers and sisters in Christ
Have a blessed New Year

Thanks for that. Please don't do it in the semper reformanda forums either.

No thanks. I also know what the RCC teaches and it's not scriptural. Not even close!

Reading all of these explanations...you almost need an infallible interpretation of what Rome says to understand her properly!!

I wonder when that commentary will come out, and who will be authorized to interpret it.
