Very anti-catholic & very anti-religion. My husband came home lastnight & said he overheard him discussing that the RCC admitted they made up Hell to keep the faithful in line.

I told him that it was news to me. And I keep up on Catholic news.

Then he went on to tell me that this guy believes that space aliens are going to come back & give us the technology we need to have all our electricity for free, etc. No God... but definitely space aliens.

Gaddafi? Not a bad guy. He paid for everything for his people over there. Healthcare. thousand a month, etc.

I told hubby he sounded mentally disturbed to me & maybe someone should be alerted.

He said it's well known but nobody takes him seriously. But it spooked me.

Supposedly he reads all this wackery on the computer. I've never heard of the 'Catholic Church made up hell' conspiracy.

Has anyone else heard of it?

My mother says the bible is a book of "myths and fairy tales" and nuns are just "maids for the priests". How she would know "they do all the priest laundry and sewing"...I don't know. Has she ever seen a nun do laundry?
She's atheist and has it out for the church most of the time. I just remember who's behind the way she's acting (Satan) and I pray that she be released from this mindset.
When I had Jehovah Witness friends, they used to be very anti-Catholic and part of their religion is that there is "no hell". So, it could be from them or some other religion that doesn't believe in hell.

I've never heard Catholics specifically being credited for inventing hell, but many have opined that the concept of hell was invented to scare people into obeying without question.

Just spoke with an ex-Jehovah witness a hour or so ago actually, he told me he read The Bible 72 times cover to cover, which I think is pretty amazing if true since I just finished reading it myself, once. Anyway He sadly doesn't believe in God, but i'm going to continue praying for him.

Nah, the idea of eternal torment as a punishment for leaving your tribe predicted Christianity I'm pretty sure.

Nope.

I'm saying that certain elements consistent with what Christians believe existed in belief systems that predates Christianity. Maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe it was God's way of preparing the way for His Church.

Oh yeah. The differing/similar flood stories predating Abrahamic religions.

Sort of primal but in my view it is part of our salvation history. I tend to think the variation was dependent on whatever culture the story was told from & natural law Scripture speaks of.

Christianity was not the first system of belief but I think that God let men be for a time to let them evolve. Abraham's father was an idol maker for example.

It does not leave God out but people were sort of left to make sense of things for themselves I believe.

I think God's intent & purpose was of course the original faith but it morphed off into different belief systems. I think that why God made a covenant with Abraham & dealt with the human race on a level they could understand for a time until all the prophetic writings were fulfilled pointing to Jesus. No other religion has that as Christianity does.

If those are his religious beliefs, I don't think he could be fired because of them.

If his behavior in work is disruptive, I guess your husband could start a file and annotate these behaviors, and when thy reached a certain critical mass he could probably fire him.

When we were in our twenties, my hubby worked with a brilliant programmer with a photographic memory. He seemed like a very controlling husband. It was during the gas shortage, and he would make his wife walk a mile to the gas station with the baby carriage to fill the gas can every day (instead of getting up at 5:30 in the morning in your jammies with a pillow and blanket and napping in the car line until the gas station opened like the rest of us.) NY had a gas shortage that was much worse than in other areas.

Anyway, my hubby moved on to another company (along with two other co-workers) which was rapidly growing and where all three eventually became VP's (or maybe AVP's.) And the brilliant programmer came out and started working there. They could tell something had snapped in his brain (he was divorced by then.) He only stayed a few days and just disappeared.

A few months later we heard he had gone to his ex-wife's house and chopped her up with an ax because she wouldn't convert the kids to Judaism. He was ruled insane. It was horrible. His wife was such a tiny little thing, all blonde and freckle-faced.

Sometimes if you can persuade people who are a little off to get help when they really need it you can prevent tragedy down the road, but this man disappeared before they could persuade him to get help.

Really if you look at it dispassionately someone who believes in Angels but not Aliens and vice versa are very similar. Aliens and multidimensional beings could very well be interchangeable.
So he is not the cultural norm could mean he is a nut, could mean he just has a different thought pattern witch could be good in a business. It dose sound as if "the Nut" could learn some tolerance of other peoples beliefs though.

Ignoring it - dismissing it - or excusing it is a way to placate one's conscience. Jesus did refer to weeping and gnashing of teeth and eternal lake of fire.

Today, Man (Russians and Americans etc together) can just about manage to orbit our own planet via the Spacestation yet we're asked to believe that over 40 years ago we were able to propel Astronauts all the way to the moon, orbit it, land on it, get back up and return all the way to Earth in one piece.

I await First Contact with excitement and it would be wonderful if it happened in my lifetime but we just ain't got the nuts and bolts to go to the moon or at least definitely didn't have them in the 60's...

Look at the images that have been taken over the years that show there are still noticeable artifacts present on the surface, as well as foot prints that show manned flights did indeed land on the moon, look at the various moon rocks that were brought over, and take into account all the various third-party accounts that also admit that the U.S. had indeed landed on the moon.

If you still call foul, no problem....
