• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've been taking them for about 3 years now. I cut down to half a pill for a while and lately I've been biting a really small piece of the tablets, but I am having mad insomnia and brain zaps. Is this normal?

How many mg of ativan do you take a day?

Many antianxiety and antiinsomnia medication cause these problems. Buspar is notorious for causing anxiety problems if you lower, or stop dosing.

You may need to detoxify yourself for a while.

Of course, you would have to talk to your doctor as I am not a licensed medical professional.

I'm taking less than .5 mg now. I don't measure it; just eyeball it and bite.

You should go to a trusted doctor - not one who is going to shuffle you between medication that will harm other body systems (so that you can be sent to their hepatologist friends, for example.)

0.5 mg ativan isn't that much - especially in a 24 hour period. But, you may be sensitive to the chemistry.

I can take 200mg of diphenhydramine (OTC,) and not fall asleep. But others can take 12.5mg, and not wake up for days.

Again, talk to a doctor about chemistry calibration and neurological receptor sensitivity, as I am not a licensed medical professional.
