• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

HI All Cathy from South Africa here. I so want to stop smoking, loose weight etc. I love Jesus and ask daily for deliverance from this. My husband went into church one morning`and the Lord touched him. He hasn't smoked once in 4 months since then. I pray for the same but perhaps i need to do it differently? Please pray with me

I certainly will pray for you. Remember this is your own path and that what works for one person won't always work for another. Keep praying the Lord will deliver you but you have to wait for His timing. Since I have quit I have lost 5 kilos though I wish it was more. Excercise is fantastic for beating craviungs also. The best way to start is to delay your next smoke and do something else like go for a walk, have a drink of water etc. Also try delaying buying your next pack - don't worry if first time you don't succeed on that one but just keep trying every hour that you don't smoke is better for you than every hour you do. So start small and be happy when you achieve your goals! God bless Evie

The best way to quit is to stop the devil from deceiving you. He will put a lot of lies into your head to make you think there is an advantage to smoking. When in fact there is no advantage and it causes a lot of harm.

As Jesus said, the truth will set you free.

You are all so great. Thank you for praying with me. I will keep praying and i KNOW AND BELIEVE Jesus will set me free, when it is time. Another site i posted on told me that it is because i "choose" the cigarettes over God. That is absolutely not true and i was very sad. I think more than anyone i realise that only God is Holy. We came into this world as sinners and can only get out of this when he saves us. And i know i'm forgiven. I just want to live within his will now.! Thank you so much!

Hey CathyE just a quick note to see how you are going. I think it is very important that we remember that smoking is an addiction as well as a habit and thus is very hard to break the cycle. But keep up the good work, wanting to quit is the hard part (there are plenty of times I still struggle with the wanting to stay quit!). God bless, Evie

Hi You
Thank you very much. I havent drunk in a week. It is as if the Father has made it clear to me that all things are permitted to us, but some things are not useful. Jesus himself was probably having a glass of wine (hence the Pharisees calling him a "drunkard", but through scripture on this he made me see it's ok to have a glass of wine with supper, but it is absolutely NOT PERMITTED to get drunk the way i do). And now during the week i don't have anything. NOTHING. I'm free of the alcohol. Friday night i had 2 glasses of wine but stopped.
The smoking seems harder, but suddenly i start eating less..... And i exercise. And this all through prayer.... :))

Hello Cathy,

I have been stopped now for 7 weeks and I believe that the Lord pointed me to my salvation. I used a CD from a company called alphadynamics and quit in 19 days. I will never smoke again. Apart from the health risks it would be like rejecting the best advice from the best advisor you could ever find. Can't post the website address but you can google it. Good luck, and I will pray for you.

hey dearie,

hold the verse close to your heart, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." count on His strength, not yours ks. He knows your battle dear, and He loves you dearly. He sees and knows that your heart beats for Him and desires Him(= and He is pleased.

one of the things that in a way help me was the knowledge that when i smoked, i would be hurting the One that loved me, by hurting myself and my body.

don't see it as a failure but a battle. God is in control, He is our Alpha and Omega. one day you are going to encourage everyone!! God bless dear! nothing is impossible unto Jesus, our Lord of lords and our King of kings!!
