You brought back a memory I'd forgotten about. Remember when TV stations didn't broadcast 24 hours a day? At some point late at night, they'd play the national anthem and "sign off". Nothing but static/white noise till the next morning.
They'd go off at sunset.
Then, KAAY, Little Rock, Arkansas, was permitted to crank up the am signals to 50,000 watts. They could be heard from Mexico to Southern Canada!

I'm sorry. I missread your post. AM radio signed off at sunset.

That was a very heartwarming tribute.

I'm a big fan of the old "I Love Lucy" shows.
I get to see Ernie on 'em occasionally!

Anyone remember

Listening to the top songs of the year during the New Years Countdown on the radio

AND

record for free, every single top song on your cassette tapes?!

I wrote them all down in order and had all the hits I wanted
We had a local FM rock radio station that would announce that next Friday at midnight, they'd be playing a newly released album from a major band, all the way through with no interruption. So of course we'd record it on cassette and get a free album. FM was kind of "underground" back then. No way they could get away with that today.

Ah yes, "border blasters". I remember that. Last year I made a thread about them: Border Blasters
