Ask around in your church congregation if other people know where you can find new songs.. in any case it is a good way to start conversations and get to know people!!

Congratulations on becoming worship leader.. maybe others who play music or are involved in the worship ministry could help??

I will pray over this for you.. :)

WOW worship CD's and Chris Tomlin CD's are a good place to start, just to name a couple. Usually songbooks, with lead sheets and words, are avaliable for the CD's. Vinyard music is also a great place to get songs.

Would recommend attending a praise and worship weekend seminar somewhere close ASAP. They usually have classes geared towards the worship leader.

Fill your car CD player or ipod with worship music and worship EVERY day. Note that all Christian songs are not praise or worship songs. Be specific in choosing worship songs.

Have your church actually dedicate or annoint you for the position of worship leader.

Surround yourself with talented and dedicated musicians

Just a few thoughts.

Joey gives great advice. Also another great teacher to use is Paul Baloche. His website http://leadworship.com has helped me tremendously, and you'll be surprised how much of his music you already know. Live, eat, breath Worship music. Paul's site also has free songbook downloads that are awesome. Use every resource you can think of, and learn from those true worshippers, those Chris Tomlin, Paul Baloche, Kari Jobe, Matt Redman worshippers out there. Go to youtube and view some of their songs and get an idea of what you like and don't like, what your team and congregation will maybe accept, and give it to God.

On the other hand, do you feel called to be the Worship Leader? If not, let your Pastor now that you'll fill in for the interim, but that you don't fell that calling. Just because you are "bumped" into a position doesn't mean you should be there, and just because you can do it, doesn't mean you are called to.

Be encouraged and enjoy this time! Leading worship is joyous - not only do you help usher people into the holy of holies via music and song, but you can know that you are filling the throne room itself with praises from below! God Bless!!

Yall always have the best advise and music picks! I'll just throw in a coulpe more that we also use (along with the above) Hillsong / United. Great stuff! Look for worship cds by various artists, don't be afraid to pull out some of the older stuff, just give it a new flare. Songs that are familiar to the congregation make it easier for them to get into the worship.

If you don't listen to the radio, is that because you don't have a Christian station nearby? It's worth it to listen to Christian radio. You can find KLOVE on the Internet and listen online.

Also, for a comprehensive look at all the aspects of worship leading, I like this book:
The Worship Answer Book - By: Rick Muchow - Christianbook.com

It covers a range of issues you'll face.

I just want to add that leading worship is not something that you do...it's something that you are. It is a growing process so no one is instantly "there".

Matt Redman tells the story about him and another guy getting together every Wednesday evening for worship FOR THREE YEARS before he started leading out. Just two guys, alone in a room for three years, praising the Lord. You can see where that has led him and the blessings that have come through him as a result.

Blessings on you and keep us updated.
