  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i had a job in direct sales - solicitation.

it was so unfulfilling. after i started focusing on reality, not "what could be" as my supervisors harped on all the time, i realized that it was doing nothing for me - financially, emotionally, physically, and/or spiritually.

finally just quit. it wasn't worth it.

my first paid employment, and it lasted like 6 weeks. i'm finding it hard to actually tell people though.

:(

so, what was your first (nightmare of a) job and how'd it turn out? let's all reminisce.

Well, I started out as a part-time stockboy at the local grocery store at the age of 15. I'm now 18 years old and actually typing this post before I head back to the store for a 5 a.m. truck load of groceries. For me, I've been with the same employer for over two and a half years.

Sure, I complain a lot when I'm there but I know that I am really fortunate because I have a great job, especially at my age. I am now one of the highest part-time employees and receive good pay and hours for my years of service. About a year and a half ago, I was accepted into the produce (fruits and veggies) division of the store which is unofficially the best part to work in. Overall, I've been payed well for my hard work. Which is good, because I didn't go into work over 400 times before school for nothing (real numbers) :)

My first job that I thought was a nightmare was when I workd at Wal mart for two months in the dairy department. I liked my department, but the store manager was a jerk. Most of my other jobs have been very rewarding. Like the volunteer work that I do with special needs people, my two internships at the vet clinics and my job now are all really great jobs and fun people to work with. Every year where I work and at various research facilities people in my positiion have a week set aside to be recognised for their efforts in the ways of research. I currently work for a cancer research facillity.

I've only had one job, a life guard, its what I do now, and I love it, I get a lot of hours, and my manager is awesome, if I need a day off, he gives it! Plus I've had the chance to talk to one woman I work with about my faith. She actually used to go to my church, and really liked it, but for some reason had stopped going, so I am trying to get her to return, so I would have to say that I do not have a nightmare of a job. :)

Unloading onion trucks. I did it for 2 days; I should have quit halfway through the second day. I almost threw my back out.

Yikes!
Well, first job was a camp counselor at a summer horse camp (very small) and I was doing it as I vaulted there, and it was a nightmare. It was probably one of the worst summers of my life. It was me, and about 3 other girls were counselors and we'd trade off so 2 per week, and it was bad. Needless to say I am not a good kid person, and they were like banshees! I got IBS in the first week of working and haven't been the same since, not good.

Next job I had was a field worker at a produce farm. Once again, never again I say, it was the hottest hardest work I'd ever done. There was a period of several days of loading in haybales and we had to do it in a heat wave, I have never sweated so much in my life or been so exhausted in my life. I am of small slender build, so I don't have the muslces for it, but I did it.

Currently, I am looking for work. I stuck with each job till the end though, I didn't quit. Maybe I should have! :p
