  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's really not all that different.

I listen to anything that catches my interest and doesn't bore me, whether it be indie or mainstream. I adored Kanye West's last record and Britney's Toxic, and I think Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway is full of wonderful pop songs that have intelligent hooks and good singing.

It's not like EVERYTHING on the radio is terrible. It just takes some rooting through a lot of carp to find the good stuff.

Wow. I smiled, then cried, all in the span of one post.

Ah, another pompous boob, too naive to see the pure pop beauty of Kelly Clarkson's music.

Open your mind, my friend, and let Kelly win your heart too.
I hope to Ra you were being sarcastic Philn. :p

The day I need the overproduced stylings of a marketing exercise in designer jeans is the day they put me away for good.

I do listen to some pop radio stuff, like James Blunt, but not often.

But I am completely serious when I say that Kelly's new album is good pop music
An oxymoron these days, pop peaked with Micheal Jackson's Thriller album and quickly flatlined therafter.

Don't presume that I haven't heard her stuff, if indeed hers it is. Our local pop station played little else for the week while the carpenters who tuned in did their thing at my work.
I could sum it up in one word: generic
Sorry, I just cannot like it, nor find a reason to appreciate it on any level.

Well, good pop music clearly isn't an oxymoron because Brian Wilson put out SMiLE last year, which is a brilliant pop masterpiece. And while I am a fan of Thriller/Off the Wall -era Michael Jackson, the melodies and musical technicalities are far more advanced in Brian Wilson's material.

Also, Annie's album, Anniemal, is another example of a good pop record from recent years.

And there are plenty more.

You can just say you don't like Kelly Clarkson, you don't have to make a blanket statement about pop music in general. I agree that most of it is terrible, but I don't think you can the genre has peaked because people are still making it, and there could still be genre-defining albums released in the near future.

Hey, I'm not talking about the broad definition 'Pop' genre here, I'm talking crank-out-a-blonde-and-give-her-a-phony-attitude 'pop'.
(Makes it ironic that America can be opposed to human cloning eh? :p)
Pop like that is not the genre in which to express emotion other than pretend love or pretend broken heart.

On the weekend, I teach cynicism to homeless orphans.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with that Gavin Degraw song......if indeed the song I'm thinking of is Gavin Degraw.......the guy with the piano, right? That sings that one song, right? Yeah, I'm sure that's it.

You know, all this talk about Kelly has me so mixed up right now. Every time I read the words "Gavin Degraw", I see a mental picture of Dwight Yoakam...

Hold your horses. What the hell is wrong with designer jeans? I can understand an aversion towards designer shirts that prominently display a brand name, but generic clothing lines simply cannot produce jeans that have as comfortable a fit as the designer brands. I therefore advise you to try a nice pair of jeans on, unless of course, you wear dresses like The Theory. If that's the case, I apologize for this rant. :)

He's little touchy about that. I'm not sure how happy he'll be that this is public knowledge now.

But I guess he had it coming to him. I mean, seriously, those tight, black, polka-dot numbers, just don't work for him.
