  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

:help:
I have set a goal for myself to remember at lease one verse from every book from the bible (I think there are 66 books). That is a really hard goal to get to considering I have not read the whole bible, maybe about a little less than a third and of the four Gospels I’ve only read Matthew, some of Mark, and some of John. So this will be very hard for me to do with out the help of you all. Some verses can be funny, like a pillar of salt, or serious like John 3:16.

The verses I have so far are these:
Genesis 19:16—But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Exodus 20:3-4, 7-8, 12-16—The Ten Commandments (pretty much).
Leviticus
Numbers
Deuteronomy
Joshua 6:1—now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
(I think of communism and the Berlin Wall when I read that, is that a correct assumption?)
Judges
Ruth
1 Samuel
2 Samuel
1 Kings
2 Kings
1 Chronicles
2 Chronicles
Ezra
Nehemiah
Esther
Job
Psalm 23—Shepherd Prayer
(best Psalm I’ve read)
Proverbs
Ecclesiastes
Song of Solomon
Isaiah
Jeremiah
Lamentations
Ezekiel
Daniel 6:5—Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no matter of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
(I believe after Israel gets taken over a king punishes Daniel for some reason. I know that Daniel is put in a lions den to be killed. But he prays to God and God shuts the mouths of the Lions so they cannot hurt Daniel.
Hosea
Joel
Amos
Obadiah
Jonah
Micah
Nahum
Habakkuk
Zephaniah
Haggai
Zechariah
Malachi

Matthew 6:9-13—The Lords Prayer
Matthew 5:3-12—Beatitudes
Mark
Luke 23:34—Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
(Jesus asked his Father to forgive the Romans for what they were doing to him)
Luke 23:43—And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise
(He says that to the man on the cross to the right, after he asked Jesus for forgiveness)
John 3:16—For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Acts
Romans
1 Corinthians 13—The Love Chapter
(If I don’t remember the whole thing I’ll just try the verse 13, the last verse).
2 Corinthians
Galatians 2:20—I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me
(My favorite verse).
Galatians 4:16—Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
(You hate me because I’m honest?)
Ephesians 6:11—put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Philippians 4:13—I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me.
(I say this before every athletic thing I do, like before every run in track)
Colossians
1 Thessalonians
2 Thessalonians
1 Timothy
2 Timothy
Titus
Philemon
Hebrews
James 1:19—wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath
(Why get mad at someone so easily?)
1 Peter
2 Peter
1 John
2 John
3 John
Jude 1:21—Keep youselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Revelation

Just if you know something good from any where then tell me. It doesn’t have to be your favorite overall just a good one from every book. And please don’t make the huge list like I did it will just waste a lot of space and a lot of people won’t want to read it if it’s long (don’t do what I did). I don’t expect a lot of people to read this because it’s long but if you read this please add. And if you like something from a book I already have, add it anyways.

If you read this whole thing thank you very much and please help me. I would also like to ask you to pray for me so I may accomplish this goal.

God Bless,
Dave

*snip Some verses can be funny, like a pillar of salt, *snip

I just re-read your post. And, I'm sorry, but, did I read that right? You think Lot's wife being turned into a pillar of salt is funny???

I'm sorry, but, I don't see how another human being, being killed could possibly be considered funny. :(

When I read it I did that sound you make when something's funny but not funny enough to make you laugh. And honestly are you telling me our perfect God doesn't have a sense of humor? I mean out of all the things to be turned in to or just to have her fall dead right there... poof salt. You have to say it’s a little funny.

Habakkuk 2:3 as to the vision of the Chaldeans is for the end - at the end it shall speak.

For a verse around it - take verse 5 as to being a description of the coming man of sin from Chaldea >Iraq.

man > death and desires to be as hell

What are the names of the 4th seal rider in Revelation?
death and hell

I thought the salt thing was pretty funny myself. I was recently trying to derive any symbolism from why he turned her into salt but i cant.

here is one from ecclesiastes that always made me chuckle.
ECC 11:3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.

I was always thought to myself: "imagine that, where the true fell, it stayed". i get the point the verse is making now but it still funny to me.

The funniest lines in the bible, in my opinion, are where Jesus is about to be killed but "left, because it wasnt his time".. i always pictured jesus like doing a ninja puff of smoke on the ground to escape because one minute peoplpe are about to stone him, and the next minute he just slips away without any verses saying "jesus ran for his life".
