np, the best way is to find someone patient enough to tech you, but that's a pretty good tutorial.

Chess is a favorite game of mine. No other game do I get truly angry within, which I find funny, it does not make me personally angry at the other. I lax about card games if I lose but not chess. I don't hold grudges. I used to play at pogo.com. It takes much losing to learn why others won. It takes keeping many many things in mind. Be willing to lose alot and you'll learn alot. I'll write more later.

A couple of things I've learned to keep in mind during chess, and I am not a good player either.

but need to be aware of when you move somewhere that your piece is guarded by another piece so that the opponent won't take your piece to have it taken. The queen however is an exception, people will take the queen even if its guarded. If you move somewhere without guarding it is risky but also it may be fine even if for one turn.

Try to take opponents pieces that aren't guarded either, or smaller pieces like pawns to break down the walls around the king. You have to really look hard on each turn and then sneak your pieces to capture theirs

The above are shortterm defensive and offensive main goals

Then there are long term goals

You need to be aware of what long term strategy is happening. They will set up a few pieces to try to surround the king if even from a distance. A few pieces may be set up to attack the same pieces around the king that are not guarded properly then those pieces will be taken and the king is exposed and the game is over

Make your own long term goals to get their king in same way. You need 2 or 3 pieces ideally to surround the king.

Basically you have to keep in mind these basic things of short term and long term goals.

Practice being aware of what moves mean to the rest of the pieces.

Take their queen too even if you sacrifice another piece though not your queen.

Much of it is intuitive and hard to explain in posts.

I'm not a good player, but far better than I was.

I have fun anyhow.

If you play at pogo.com, you can set up your own table and limit players to the beginner level, make the game scorable or not, and decide on a time limit for player for total moves. You can chat in a box with the player or make it mute. It's free too!

A site that shows chess variations. Wait for options to load. Over a hundred.

http://play.chessvariants.com/erf/index.html

Diagonal pieces bounce off of walls, spaces disappear, can push people off the board as a capture alternative, pieces capture appear on a 2nd board to play, etc etc.

Much fun.
