  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I need some ideas...

I found out that my DD Amy's church is throwing her a baby shower, but I won't be able to attend because of the distance. Which made me think about how Amy isn't going to get a baby shower from my side of the family at all.... which made me rather sad.

So, I was thinking about some sort of "through the mail" shower and "invite" my Mom & sister in Ohio, my SIL in Alaska, and a few of Amy's friends here in El Paso. Has anyone ever heard of this being done? or have ideas on what I could call it and how I could "invite" others to participate? I would really appreciate any & all ideas/comments!

TIA! :)

This is just my inner geek talking...

:idea:How about mailing the presents and watching her open them through some kind of webcam conference/chat arrangement...?

Well, if this is her first child; get a journal of sorts and mail it to each person having them write advice, and or well wishes in it. They could send you their gifts for Amy, and then you could mail her a really big shower in a box.

This is the sort of thing I was going to suggest.

I also like the webcam idea that a previous poster suggested. (I have no idea about how to work those things, that's probably why I didn't think of that one lol)

Another idea is to write letters, for the new mum to open at different stages - prebirth, first week, first 3 months, first 6 months etc. etc. Especially since she's your daughter, maybe write similar feelings you had when she was first born.

In a way I can understand how you are feeling. My brothers girlfriend is pregnant with their baby, and I won't get to be a part of it, because they are interstate. Doesn't stop me from praying for them and wishing them well, and also knitting up some cute little baby items.

My aunt did something like this for her youngest daughter. We had a full blown baby shower at our church...with the mother-to-be on the phone, listening as her mom opened her gifts. She also spoke to each person at the shower and got to thank them personally for their love and thoughtfulness. Then her mom mailed her the gifts. But that way, those invited got to participate and hear how much she loved the gifts (and isn't that half the fun?).

That is all great advice. I like your idea too Jgonz.

I didn't get a baby shower from my congregation or from my parents due to the distance. I did however get about 5 boxes of baby things, maternity shirts and my things from home. I got one box from a friend of baby items... and my inlaws along with DH's friends threw me a small shower at our home.
