• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey there, I watched my best friend die 3 1/2 years ago in a car accident and I was unable to save her, when I was only 16. I've been really messed up since then and am trying to finally do something about it and get some help.

I am looking for somewhere I can go for an undetermined amount of time, be is 6 months, 1 year, etc, where I can go to heal and grieve this loss, with the help of a counselor. I've seen camps and stuff for kids but I'm looking for something a little more long term and I'm 20 so not for kids, obviously. I don't know of any longer term retreat centers that deal with this kind of stuff and I was wondering if someone else might???

Please help me out if you've got any ideas at all because I can't keep living in the situation I'm in right now. I really need help!

There are grief counseling classes available at churches. You usually do not have to be a member of that church who is having the classes. Check around at the local churches in your area. These classes are free except for any books or material you may need to buy.

You can also try Hospice as they also give free classes. In my town it does not matter if the Hospice programs was used for the person who died. Call your local Hospice and ask.

It does not matter if the death was recent or years ago. Counseling is needed if you are still have trouble dealing with the death. I pray that you find the help that you need.

I'm sorry for your loss. I went to some grief support group at a center for aging people. She is right that hospices have grief support but I'm not sure for how long. I would think as long as you need it. I have delayed grief from my mom's death so I am dealing with it as best I can. I may find out where I can go to let this all out. Best wishes for you to find a place. You can call a hospice and ask for what you are looking for in terms of getting the kind of help you want. I'm praying for you.

I started out with a therapist after I loss my mom to suicide and from there they decided and refered me to go inpatient at a hospital so I did that and there they can help you and help get any other treatment you need. So you can call like your local hospital and they can tell you information or find you a therapist in your area and talk to them and they can help. Ill definately will pray for you and hope that you can find the right treatment you need because it is important.
