It's a sad thing this addiction hag that hangs onto some of our backs. I had bulemia for years after I gave up drugs...the drugs were easier for me than the food thing. Stay away from the dealers and drugusers, no more drugs....poof. (Of course it was a lot harder than that but, for the sake of illustration....) And, then there's food.....it's everywhere. I still overeat when I am trapped...emotionally or physically...I have this thing that can still set me up....I don't hardly ever do the binge and purge thing anymore, though once last year I did when I was trapped by a forced lack of contact with someone I love very deeply....I couldn't stand it. I had been well of it for decades.
Anyway, when I would have a really hard time with it, I would pause, and figure out what was the hole in my heart that went there...what hurt or what jarred me or what was I being kept in or from...???? All this finally added up to a theme...being stuck or trapped or hated by someone I love. So, now, I avoid being cornered and don't allow hateful people in my life. I know they are the kind that will drive me....the point is maybe you can find your 'triggers,' too. That's what they call them...the weak places that set you off. I had to write stuff down to get it right, cause my memory was deceitful when it came to painful things.
Then, once you have 'named the demons,'( a little tongue-in-cheek there...heehee) you can find verses from the Word and good habits to resolve the 'triggers' when you find them in your path. Sounds like a lot of steps, I know, but each one is worth it. If you have heard all this before, or already know it, just ignore me, I don't mean to be a preacher.
And, oh yes, you already have the MOST IMPORTANT part down...prayer! The Lord IS our everything and He can take these sad struggles from us one day at a time. Almost without noticing, He has created change in your life. He is astounding you know. I'm sure you've seen. I used to be a miserable drug addict, homeless, had several psychotic breaks, food addictions, ...you name it, I been there...almost.(Lord, please don't take that as an invitation to take me to some hell I've not yet lived...forgive me and have mercy.)
So, I lift you, dear one, to His throne of grace within your heart. I pray that He will allow you rememberance to receive Him, often. To allow Him to provide and comfort and regulate your way through kindnessess and touches from Himself and His children in your life. I pray You will run to His lap for comfort and feel the tenderness with which He wipes your tears and fills all the voids the people around you fail to fill. I pray you be blessed in His fullness and sated in His love....so much that you become the change you wish to see and gather it all around yourself, for His glory revealed through your life in Him.
In Jesus blessed, powerful and Holy presence, abide. amen
