  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to ask about this. I had to run recovery disk on my computer. So, therefore, I no longer had MSN Instant Messenger. When I tried to download it, I kept getting messages like "incorrect parameter" and "required resource is corrupt." I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Was I downloading Messenger for the proper operating system? Sorry, I don't know what this means. Yes, I did install a virus scanner and it says I am free from viruses.
You need to download the proper "messenger" for your operating system (Windows 98/ME/2k/XP?)......Not all versions of "messenger" work with all versions of windows......

Watch windows load up as well. You should be able to learn the operating system you have installed from there. There should be a screen that will show up before windows asks you for your password. That says which operating system that you have. It will say windows followed by what ever variant that you have. Hope that helps.
As for the advice about the antivirus scanner, it is simply a good idea to have one of those installed and to keep it updated. It is a good thing to have especially if you are planning to download things from microsoft especially. :|

I recommend to anyone that doesn't know how to use their computer to install Norton Systemworks and to run the "One Button Checkup" and the antivirus on it's 8pm friday schedule. I know it can be a memory hog, but when you don't know how to keep your system running with those problems, it is the best solution because it is one of the best software packages out there even though it does use alot of memory.....

I have Windows ME. If I had previously installed MSN Messenger 6.1 and had no problems, I don't understand why I can't install it now.
Ok, try this..... go to this link, download version 5.0 for windows ME and install it, then restart your system and try to upgrade to 6.1.......

http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=msnm

Get version 6.1 from this link if you haven't..... http://windowsmessenger.com/

I'm on my way out for a few hours, I'll be back later this afternoon.....

Doofus, Happy belated birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for your help. I was able to download version 5.0.
Thank you :)

Were u able to upgrade from 5.0 to 6.1? Sometimes MSN messenger asks you if you want to update and it will update automatically, but I don't remember if it automatically goes from one version to another (like 5.0 to 6.1.......it might only go from 5.0 to 5.3 or something like that).......

Hi Duufus,

I haven't tried to upgrade. I was sure than I had originally had 6.1 but I might be mistaken. Version 5.0 looks just like what I had before, so whether I can upgrade or not, I'm just happy to have MSN Messsenger going. I have a lot of friends who have MSN and want to be able to continue to communicate with them.
