I would say your desire to seek after God automatically makes you a better Christian... although there is no such thing as a "good" Christian or a "bad" Christian. We are all sinners saved by grace for the glory of God, no matter how good or bad you were. Here's just some questions you can ask yourself in your search:
Do you read the Word? Do you meditate on it? Do you try and apply it?
Do you find yourself constantly looking for God's guiding hand in everyday life?
When's the last time you read Proverbs?
Do you pray? Do you pray throughout the day or at set times?
Have you set aside time to develop your relationship with God?
Do you know that God loves you no matter how good you are in this life?
When's the last time you just laughed at something stupid?

Are you trusting God to get you through this by asking for prayers, or are you wanting someone to relate to? (Look hard, this one trips me up a lot)
When's the last time you poured your heart out in worship to Him no matter what anyone thought?
Have you unconsciously been neglecting to serve others while seeking after the need you have? (This one gets me too.)
I hope something in this response made something click for you (or anyone who happened to read this

) Have a great day! And may God show His ways to you my brother!
