I need help :'(

Internet Explorer and MSN explorer have a hard time connecting to sites. I have cable so it wouldnt be a slow connection. Like with the forums i try to view a page and it takes forever to load and then it says unable to connect or whatever that page says. its happening with everything

optus. i think i fixed it well so far no trouble. i cleaned out my internet files of whatever they are. took ages though

He's being sarcastic, don't twist the cabels. If you twist them tight enough, you can end up cutting off the signal. This is more a problem with optical cabels, but it can still be an issue with CAT-5 and cabel wires, though it is hard to do.

If restarting your cabel modem and router (if you have one) didn't help, there's a few things you can try:

1. Download and run adaware. It's possible you have spy ware on your computer that is eating up your bandwidth
2. Try an alternate browser. If an alternate browser works fine, then you may need to reinstall/repair IE or Windows itself. My uncle had a similar problem on his DSL line, even alternate browsers were running slow as heck. After cleaning out some spyware, he still had some weird stuff going on so I reinstalled windows, and everything worked fine.

Also, it is very possible that it is simply your connection. While cable conenctions can be fast, they are shared lines. So if you are using the internet during peak usage, there's a lot of other people online that can be eating up your bandwidth. This is why I prefer DSL. DSL is your own line so you don't have to worry about bandwidth dropping because other people are online.

Check the backlog of your ISP's service status. If you have no problems, then all of a sudden very poor performance and then its back to normal again, chances are its a technical problem with them.

Twisting CAT5 cables will not stop the signal unless the copper cable is broken by the twisting. Optical will stop if you bend it too far even without the glass thread breaking, though usually any further than that and the glass thread will break as well and it will be rendered useless.
Really, I think he was referring to the actual cable cable connecting to the modem (should be coaxial), make sure it is firmly screwed into the modem.

Also, if u r using DSL, make sure you have microfilters installed on all of your phones using that line, even if connected through an extension (though if you have more than one on an extension you can use one filter for all phone son that extension).
If they aren't then when someone uses the phone it will play havoc with your connection.

If you are on cable, you may ask your provider to check the signal strength for you. I had problems when my cable was first installed as the signal strength was too high for the modem and I had to fit an attenuator to enable the modem to operate correctly, it would work fine for a little while and then it would slow right down and lose connection altogether after about 15 mins to 1/2 hour. If you have cable tv check that it all works ok, and check to see if it being on/off makes a difference o the connection.

lol not the patch cable(btw CAT6 rocks) the coaxial cable going in to your modem needs to be tight or else you lose some of you signal

That's what I was reffering to. The whole "twisiting the cable" thing just makes me think of people tieng optical cables into a knot to save room or,tying a coaxial or cat-5 cable so tight you basically break the wire. I've personally never seen it happen with cat-5 or coaxial cable, but I've heard stories about it from some very surprised IT guys.
