• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am almost 30 years old and I have been smoking since I was 15 years old. I was able to quit smoking when I was PG with my 2nd child, but as soon as I quit Breast Feeding him, I started smoking again. I feel like such a heal for starting back again. But there is nothing I can do about that now. All I can do is the here and now AND Now I really want and need to quit.

For those of you that quit......... How did you do it? I know the number one thing that I need to do is pray. That is one thing that I am going to do. But what steps did you take. I cannot afford to go out and buy that gum or the patches.

Please, Help me. I don't think I can do this alone. My husband smokes too and he is not quiting. However, he is supporting me and promised me that he will not smoke around me and will not leave the pack of cigs. around where I can see them.

What can I do?:help:

Thanks

Laura

I used patches from Wal*Mart. They were the Equate generic brand. They are about HALF the price of the named patches!! I also bought a couple of packs of herbal cigarettes from a smoke shop. Those are really, really nasty and I could only smoke them for about 2 weeks before I put them down, but they don't have any tobacco in them.

Gosh Laura,I failed about 5 times.I'd quit and like an unaware motion I would find myself lighting up.The addiction was just too strong.I've quit since spring.cold turkey.I just quit and suffered and got over it.The thoughts are still there.I did it for my wife and her pregnancy in the beginning and then I watched a tv show Cold Turkey.I realized I wouldn't live into my 50's.I QUIT then for me. Please keep posting.Live healthy..you CAN do it if I can.my nickname was once Mr Smokescreen. My co workers used to say they could tell I was around as the smoke in the break room was that thick. 1 and a half packs a day. YOU GO :) PS I will Pray for you Laura, today and keep praying.

I quit cold turkey almost 28 years ago by using tooth picks as a crutch, just having one in my mouth and the taste of the wood and chewing on it helped bunches, as it really wasn't hard at all, even though I had failed dozens of other things.

My goal was to quit so i would be healthier, but more importantly so that my two kids would not have to breath my smoke and live in a house where smoking is accepted. I din't want them to smoke, and by God's grace neither of them has.

Praise God!

Mercy, grace and love for yourself. Addictions has a spiritual root problem and takes time to work through those root problems but it is possible. Don't be so hard on yourself and give yourself grace. You are not a failure. It is just that nicotine is an addiction.

I've tried the patches too. They didn't seem to work well for me.
Any ideas ??

I would suggest the Nicotrol Inhaler. I am on day 4 of no smoking and that is what I am using. Unlike the patch you can get nicotine right when you feel you need it and it is similar to smoking just w/o lighting up or the smoke. LOL!

You need a prescription but insurances will cover it.
