Zealous for reading and praying.

I used to do this stuff daily. Then, after I finished the book of Matthew, my first Bible book read if you don't count Jonah, I prayed to God to help me keep reading.

Then, I just haven't been doing this stuff lately. Everytime I try to read the Bible, I get tired or go to sleep. I want to read it, but I can't!

Also, I don't know what to pray about when I approach God. I can't pray about anything. What's the use of praying when you're not going to say anything?

I still love God, I love him very much. But I feel as if I'm drifting away from him. I don't want this!

Hi.

Don't let this get you down. I think we all go through these stages. I have found that when I can't seem to get myself into reading the Bible, I listen to it on tape or I take some time out to read Christian books. They ususally get me fired up to read The Word again.
As for praying, surely you must know people who could use prayer? I have found that when praying for our world or for my friends and famliy that I can pray almost constantly because so many out there need His help and guidance. So, if you are having trouble with prayer, just start out praying for those around you. Before you know it, you'll have a good prayer life. At least it worked very well for me.
There are plenty of other more learned members in here that I'm sure will come along with more advice but I hope I helped a little. I've been there too and for me, the more I made my time with God being about others the more I learned about Him and myself. God Bless You, Rebecca

When you pray, pray like this...

"Our Father who is in heaven
Holy is Your name
Your kingdom come Your will be done
On Earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who have sinned against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one
For all the power and glory is Yours
Amen."

When you pray, lift up God first. Tell Him how great He is; how holy and righteous He is. Speak to Him of His Son and the sacrifice of the cross.. Ask for guidance and strength for yourself throughout the day. That you can stand for Him and not turn away. Ask Him to be with you and keep you, teaching you of Himself.. Ask Him to give you a love and desire to know Him more and more.. Then pray for others.. Family, friends, ect..

You sound exactly like me two years ago. Haha! But really, I can't help but think of myself when reading your post. And also, this passion inside of you at your age is a miracle from God. As most kids your age aren't concerned that much about God. But what you've got is an awesome gift from God!! But spiritual growth is at times frustrating and confusing.

But when these dry spells come, when you feel that you cannot stay focussed, never give up after God. Dude, just strive after him with all you've got. As much as you may know about God right now, he's got things infinitely bigger and better to reveal to you!! Always strive after God. A relationship with God isn't stagnant. It grows and changes! And God will continually reveal awesome things in your life as you grow up. We can't possibly imagine what cool things he's got in store for us. And I am not talking to you like a master of this thing. For my relationship with God is certainly not done growing. It will be changing and growing till the day I die. And even from where I am now, God still has awesome things to reveal to me. So, when these difficult times come, as more will come, always strive after God. Never quit! Always look to God. And when you think you're looking to God, look harder! This applies even to me! Because there is no limit to the intamacy of praying or reading the Bible. Just always seek after God.

Proverbs 3:5-6

You're a miracle dude! :)

Are you just reading the Bible at random or is there a method you're following? A lot of people, especially new Christians, will just read a passage or book at random and they have the same result as you're having.

I would suggest finding a Bible study either through your church or a local baptist church. This would make it easier for you to study and you would be able to ask questions.

Keep trying to get that word of God inside you. Never quite. Salvation is a day by day process. We are being saved, so never give up on trying to do what will pay off for the good in your life later on. I've been through the same as you, but we have to be like King David and pray that God would wake us up and help us hide His Word in our hearts so that would not sin agaisnt Him and hurt ourselves. When we sin, we hurt ourselves and others around us.
God bless and keep up the reading. Perhaps a Living Bible with the modern paraphase would help....?

Ps 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!

Pr 8:36 "But he who sins against me injures himself; All those who hate me love death."

these things happen, isaiah said in isaiah 50 that even those who fear the Lord and obey the vioce of his servant have times of walking in darkness.

you do it anyway, its part of being a MAN as the bible says and leaving childesh things behind, having a resolve about these things.

but i feel like the specific problem you have is that you arent getting what you need from your prayer time.

there is more to time alone with God than things to pray about.
God wants you to engage in a relationship with him, much more than he wants you to know things to pray about.

thats why the door way to the presence of God is the doorway of worship. not specific words of phrases.
normally, unless the Spirit of God leads you diffrent, always spend time worshipping him before you ask anything from God.
put on a cd and worship God. thats creates a seat that God comes and sits in. and then, and only then have you created an atmosphere that the the Spirit of God can come into.

the most important thing is your relationship with him, things like worship and praise and just crying and telling the Lord you love him and telling the holyspirit that he is welcome in that place and to please come spend time with you.

the most important thing about YOUR prayer time, is God spending time with you and speaking to you about your problems and loving on YOU.

God will always bless YOU, before he calls you to be a blessing. thats how it works in the kingdom.

Jesus said that when you pray, do not pray like the heathen do, using vain repetitions.
thats word repitition literally means to PRATE TEDIOUSLY. or be very tedious about your words.

Jesus was saying it isnt about your words, its about your spirit simply crying out and getting back in touch with his spirit, and the way is worship. relationships arent regulated or lead by steps or formulas, but simply love and desire, which are the foundations of worship.
thats why the bible said people came to Jesus and worshipped him, but all they did was come and say things like "I NEED YOU..." or " LORD I BELIEVE..."
but Jesus called it worship. just the expression of how you feel toward God in your heart, thats worship.

When you talk to God, just remember one thing: No matter what, he loves you. Just tell him how you feel and ask him to give you the desire to learn more from his word. Before you get your bible out, pray to HIM for his words to fill you as you read them, and to be able to learn something from what you read. Speak to someone who is another christian for help as well. Don't be afraid to go to God with your problems. He is always there, and He is ALWAYS listening. If you trust in Him, he will give you the desire. I HOPE THIS HELPS! you can write back to me if you would like to talk more about this, because I went through like this a while ago, and have fully restored my faith and am ready to learn more from His word everday! good luck!
