They make fire pits with a lot of smoke in the yard we share.

Do they re-use the same firepit every night?
I can think of how I might discourage this behavior

Mind you, these people are local church members who volunteer to help others, but behind closed doors, is another side to them. I do not belong to a Church, as I have no automobile and my portable tank lasts only 2 hours.

A more Christ-like suggestion...
Do you know what Church they belong to?
Write their pastor and other associated members (anyone you can get contact info for on the church's site) tell your story but don't name them

If they express sympathy (which they should, they should be appalled), see if the pastor or another member would be willing to come to your residence when you call while they are doing it, or be having dinner with you at your residence on a night you know they do it consistantly.

In this way they will be caught in the act, exposed and shamed

Luke 12:2-3
2 There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.
3 What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.

I'm not certain of this advice, as you will still be living near them, but at least you will know that others know them for what they are.

As a side note, my wife and I were heavy smokers and we smoked in our courtyard a lot.
One day, 9 months after we moved in, we heard our neighbor cryout in frustration about the smoke (she was elderly and had been suffering). We did not know how we had been harming her. We asked forgiveness, made a resolution not to smoke in the courtyard and were able to quit smoking entirely about 6 months after that.

Unfortunately, I doubt your neighbors care, but I take it you have expressed yourself to them already. At any rate, prayers for you. I hope your situation improves.

Thank-You Everybody, I sincerely appreciate your concern. I must stop posting about them as it gives me chest pains even when I think and talk about them. I hope this doesn't kill me. I was fine until THEY moved in. Now, all this hate has gotten the better of me because I cannot move to a better location. I am having a nuclear stress test soon my cardiologist ordered for me. Thank-You All.

For God so loved the world. Who did Christ come and die for? “But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment” Is it not also written in 1st John "But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment”

What you ask is within you. Ask Him to show you those people alone through His eyes. For you do not see the heart that is what He always looks at for man only sees the flesh.

So do the flip side of all this. Love them.. no love them and watch what the Father will do. Since they are not here to defend them selfs this is only one side of this story. Great is He that is in you then he thats in the world. He would not tell us to love our enemys if its not within us to do so. That love is the same love He loves you and me.

Think how many BILLIONS of His creation and Children treat Him yet He loves them. The world hated ...HATED Him and yet He died for them and you and me. See that love.

I'm sorry that all options are seemingly closed off to you. Petros2015's suggestion to contact their pastor with this issue is a good idea.

You may want to consider getting an HVAC filter and some fans to help dissipate the smoke when it gets into your residence.

I pray that God gives you strength and that you can find a new place to live with your cats!

Christ specifically gave you and me (all of us) a prayer to pray, specifically for this life, here, with these problems here in this world we encounter.
Use it>
You can pray this with total faith (as Christ said is required in prayer (Mark 11)), because you know the words are from Him and perfect, and perfectly in God's will! So, this is the best prayer for us all, the most primary and essential.
I'll give a link to Matthew chapter 6 where the prayer you need is, for praying each day.
I can attest it makes a huge difference, over and over.

The best way to stop hating someone is to consistently pray for them. Don't pray for God to change them, but rather pray that God will change you so that you will live in a way that convicts them. Then start being consistent about trying to live that way. When things are not going your way, it is better to ask what God is teaching you through them than to ask for God to change the circumstances because it just might be that God has you in those circumstances for a purpose and that He wants you to grow by overcoming this trial. Though it might also be that God has a purpose for you elsewhere, so pray about that too.
