  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all! I am a 15 yr old looking for a job as maybe a webdesigner/developer but the problem is I have little experience in working with HTML. If you still want to hire me that would be great because our family is in debt majorly and an online job that I can do at home in my freetime would be great to have. If anyone knows anyone that will hire a webdeveloper/designer with little experience that would be great just post the name and how much they are willing to pay per page.

Web designing isn't nearly as lucrative as it used to be. There are a lot more web designers out there than jobs, so you're probably not going to have any luck, especially given your age and inexperience.

Your best bet for money will probably be to go the traditional route and look for jobs in retail, restaurants, etc.

If you are serious about persuing web design, you need to build up your skill level and experience. Practice making web sites and learn as much as you can. Volunteer to make web sites for others, to build up your experience. Create an online portfolio where you can show off your skills and sites you have worked on (this is vital in getting web design jobs).

And part of the job of designing web sites is knowing the business side of it (how to deal with clients, and so on). This is where working in the service industry can help give you experience in that area.

I see where you're going. I have a website of my own, actually I have had several. Mostly HTML and one of them is geocities pagebuilder, but other than that they are mostly HTML. I know the basic stuff about it and to learn more about it I'm going to volunteer to be their webmaster and manage their comic on the internet. But although I haven't gotten a chance to do that cause they haven't finished much for it. Also, he sort of declined me because he knew more about HTML and website building than me. But basically I am looking for someone to build a website for. I don't have many friends to ask cause they all know more than me about it. So I'm trying to find someone to let me build and manage a website for them. If I get paid or not that is fine. Like you said, work on building sites for other people as volunteering your labor. Cause I just like doing it for fun.

Thank you for your help!

Like Pete has said you won't find many jobs out there given your age and inexperience....I am a freelance web designer...making a little money on the side, when I was on the police force before surgery....but even at my current job....I still do my freelance stuff...just to make a couple of extra dollars...that would be your best bet...get a job at McDonalds or maybe even Chick Fil A(they hire at 15 for a certain amount of hrs). If I had room for you and could pay you I would hire you for some small things....but I have a couple of friends that I work with....they are far more advanced..knowing most of the ASP, JSP, PHP type languages.....but Good luck dude.

Ok, there's one proplem with me and PHP or ASP. I don't know what they stand for! much less trying to learn them. I will just put this site together and impress him that way. I already have an HTML proggie that will help me somewhat. And if one of PHP or ASP is putting video and audio on it then i better learn it cause that's what i'm going to do later in the job.

ASP stands for Active Server Pages. The thing to keep in mind is that ASP is not actually a language itself, but a technology that allows dynamic pages to be created and delivered to users. Most ASP pages are written in VBScript. Typically, you need a Microsoft server (running Windows 2000 or XP) with IIS (Internet Information Services) installed to use ASP.

PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) is a specific language that is also for creating dynamic pages. The nice thing about PHP is it's free. It is typically run off Linux servers and is usually included with most Linux distributions.

Now, being able to create dynamic pages is important for sites with lots of content (it sure beats hand-coding hundreds of HTML pages) or for sites with rapidly changing content (this message board, for example). Typically, the content is stored in a database. When the user requests to view a specific page, the PHP or ASP scripts retrieve the content from the database, create an HTML page (by inserting the content into an HTML template), then sends it to the user.

Research HTML,diffrent forum software, web hosting prices, ect. Then create sites for whatever reason you can think of, maybe a book you've read, game you have played or topic you have researched. This is what one of the people from another forum I visit has been doing for 4 years now. He's gotten pretty good.

Ok, first things first. Get your html down pat before learning any programming languages. You are definitely on the right track so that won't be hard to do. A great website to brush up on html as well as css and programming is W3Schools. It has a great interface where you can actually practice writing the code and seeing the result on the same page. As far as programming PHP seems to be the most popular now. I recently coded a real estate website in PHP. Let me say one thing- . Programming is a lot harder than html, at least for a beginner. I'm sure the $500 will come in handy. If only I was that smart at 15.

I agree with all the other advice given here. I'll just add a few tidbits. Keep up your active curiousity. By that I mean, keep asking yourself how someone else accomplished something you don't know how to. Then treat it like a puzzle. As you say, find out what terms mean that you don't understand. Search Google. Keep notes. Ask friends (you can PM me and I suspect others here might be willing, but I can't speak for them).

Also keep your priorities straight. Since you're being paid for a job, do you work "unto the Lord." Try to give highest priority to learning what you need for this job, and even higher priority to the quality of the results. Quality can be measured a number of ways, it doesn't have to be subjective. Are all the words spelled correctly, the English proper, does your Web page look good at different screen resolutions and in different browsers (IE, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera)? Do all the links work and is your HTML well formed (there are automated checkers for that).

I'm not a professional Web designed, I'm just trying to help based on my own experience with computer jobs in general. If any of the professionals disagree with anything I said please post a correction.

My suggestion is to learn Linux, or some Unix (Solaris, AIX, etc). There are just too many people who know HTML. HTML is just a basic programming language. If you enjoy HTML coding, learn to administer UNIX systems, and learn to program on UNIX systems. If you're fifteen and spend three years doing that, you'll be well qualified for a job at eighteen. Probably a better job than web-designer.

Look, I'm sure there are great web designing jobs. But it's supply and demand. Too many people know HTML, too few people can administer Unix/write good code.

Of course you can also learn to program on Windows. But you probably won't gain as much valuable knowledge.

I'm going to cause another guy came to school the other day and said that he won an old computer on ebay for $6, it had nothing on it the HD was wipped out completely. Then he won the OS Linux Redhat, and now he wants some students to learn Linux and teach it to him so he could use his old computer.
