I need a devotion

WEll, I want to start doing a daily devotional, like a start my day off right kinda thing.

I was wondering if anybody had suggestions for me, I'm a 15 yr. old guy by the way.

Well, an easy one to remember, but is sometimes hard to read without getting bored... is Proverbs. You can read one every day of the month. They really help in the area of seeking wisdom and direction.

You can also just start from the beginning of the New Testament and work your way to Revelation. That's always good, especially if you haven't done it in a while.

You could also pick your way through the New Testament. I would read Ephesians, 1 and 2 Corinthians, 1 and 2nd Timothy, Philippians, Galatians, and Romans chapter 8 to start off. Perhaps in whatever order you want, but those are some good places to start. Very encouraging books!

Or you could start going through the Psalms. I like being able to relate to the psalmist, whether its David or someone else. If I'm feeling down, if I'm feeling on top of the world, I can relate to a psalm SOMEwhere in there!

My mom is one who reads the Bible all the way through as many times as it takes in a year. She will start off in Genesis, and in the same day, read a couple chapters in the New Testament, starting off in Matthew.

My suggestion, if you are wanting more concrete direction is to go to a Christian bookstore and see if there are any books for teens, like a teen devotional. They may even have some that ask questions, and you answer them in the book. I have done Beth Moore studies, and she is an awesome teacher of the Word. I don't know if she has done any teen devotionals, but I am sure that there are many out there to choose from. If you go to church, you might ask your youth minister.

My husband and I just started getting their women's and men's devotionals daily by email...i know the url says for women..but on the right, if you put in your email, it'll give you the option for which you'd like, there is a men's one. So far we both really like them.

the forum: Deeper Fellowship is a lovely place to see the growth and thoughts of others and exsplore your own. as a youth leader in our church, i can tell you that just picking a scripture, a chapter, a subject, a word, or an event from the bible: applying the S.O.A.P. to it will be very adventerous. one way you can really get some fellowship and growth/ as well as share your own... will be to start a devotional in the teens forum. your peer groups feedback is pretty neat. you can also look into starting a study group in the social groups area. up in mod PC, you'll find buttons on the left hand of page. here you can create a network of people whom you'd like to study with.

in addition to the S.O.A.P. idea... you have http://www.biblegateway.com/... a site where you can google scriptures and different versions of the bible. this can really get cool. lol. you can google words, subjects, or just scripture. then some people use their blogs to share growth: journaling to God. i prefer free-hand and private.

it's a journaling technique called S.O.A.P. It works like this:

“S” Scripture. Select and write a scripture of your daily reading.
”O” Observation. Write a personal observation from the selected scripture.
”A” Application. Write a description of a way to apply this to your life today.
”P” Prayer. Write a little prayer.

it’s just a tool that can help studying. For me, sometimes its 15 minutes and other times an hour. I just follow what the Lord has for me that day and follow the pen. You will find you can go back to these later and learn about your "heart condition." It is simple and amazing.

Start out with prayer and scriptural readings from the bible. I usually read a little bit out of one of the books of the new testament, then either a pslam or proverb passage and then more reading from an old testament book. Also start a spiritual journal. write down fav scriptures, praise reports, prayer requests and things that the Holy Spirit speaks to you. This will help you to grow in your faith, and it will help you to see your growth as well.

it's ok that it doesn't make complete sense to you. it is quite a diversity of different things that touch people. the things that they think about, or feel spiritually pulled by. they'll post it and just chat... it's good for you to do this with your peers. this is why i suggested the teens forum. it is such a blessing to see your generation seeking devotions... but by all means, we except you in here too: i just want to see you gain the fellowship and thoughts of peers too. plus, i see that you have the position to bear fruits in growth for your generation. if you create a place (thread), or social group, etc.... then you'll inspire the different things that bless others. it keeps us in meditation to ponder God's will. there is so many things to think about, learn, teach eachother. if you start it, others will fallow your example, and before you know it, you'll begin to see 'deeper fellowship's' purpose.
