As a student of biology, I do believe that incest is genetically dangerous (as can be witnessed in the incest of animals through generations of inbreeding). But I'm sure that God protected early man from those dangers, as He did give the order (not just to man) for His creation to be fruitful and multiply (Gn. 1).

This is a question that can never be answered correctly, for we have no record of what God did to protect Adam and Eve and their immediate posterity from genetic maladies.

I believe the dietary laws were given to make the nation of Israel a distinct people.

I believe the Church is distinct from Israel and post Pentecost these kosher restrictions do not apply and therefore were lifted.

Some argue a health rationale for the prohibitions. If this is so, then it is curious that the restrictions for these animals would be lifted apart from an advancement (e.g. refrigeration) that would eliminate the health concern.

The fundamentalist answer is that back then incest was ok because we were perfect, before sin muddled our dna and caused incest to be dangerous. However, thats not the explanation for why incest is wrong, is says dont do it because he is ord and it dishonors people. "Absolute morality," remember? I don't buy literal interpretations.

Fundamentalist or not , they are still in the same form of belief .

If I say incest was ok back then based on some belief which allows people to do so and people don't share that same perception now ,
then obviously the structure of this form of religion is flawed if has been subject to change , creationists will always be wrong .

Peoples perception of morality are all depending on there own beliefs which is also based on there interpretation of dogma , if God doesn't say it is not wrong to do so then by all means go ahead and be free with incestrial behaviour but we can't change that belief because the power of morality in society says it's wrong .

It is peoples perception of morality which has also developed and has also changed the structure of how forms of religion are interpreted , there perceptions are worth nothing because it is all based on Dogma not being there own .

Let us not forget lot and his children. God killed Lot's wife because she looked back. Which is bull s hit to begin with. It's not worth dying just because you didn't take it 100% literally. Genesis tells us that Cain married his sister.

This is a very interesting question. In a nutshell, let's look at what some of our Biblical fathers did:

Abraham: married Sarai (later Sarah), and had sex with four concubines.
Jacob had married two first cousins who happened to be sisters too (Rachel and Leah), and had created the Jewish race.

Judah had sex with and married his daughter-in-law.

Lot and his two daughters had sex to procreate. Back in those days, it was legal for Lot to pimp his daughters. In the story we read how the daughter got him drunk and then had sex with him. There was no conflict.

The Song of Songs also talks about sexual fantasies with a sister: "We have a young sister, and her breasts are not yet grown. What shall we do for our sister for the day she is spoken for? (Song of Songs 8:8)"

"I am a wall, and my breasts are like towers. Thus I have become in his eyes like one bringing contentment. (Song of Songs 8:10)

However, these Bible verses should strictly serve purely as historical references as to the origins of the Jewish race, and IN NO WAY SHOULD THEY SERVE AS VALID REASONS FOR INCEST IF ANYBODY IS CHARGED WITH SUCH BEHAVIOUR IN OUR CULTURE!

If anyone is witness to such behaviour in the family, then it is imperative to refer it to the respectable authorities or alternatively you can share your stories with others on the recovery from abuse section.

Also there are those who interpret Gen 1 and Gen 2 as separate stories,
that Gen 1 (verse 7?) records the creation of humanity in general while
Gen 2+ deals with the special creation of Adam and Eve.

Well that is the normal interpretation of what the Bible says.

There are several possible answers.
Some say there were created people on the earth before god formed Adam. They were hunter gatherers and Adam was the first agriculturalist.
Some say there were many more decendents than just cain and able at the time.
Some say that the species was just starting out in an environment without much dna damage, and so there was not a an option if the species was going to survive. Later there were enough people to change the rules.

One of the Sumerian god types, is supposed to have tried to perfect his genotype by reproducing with his daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughter. He was trying to get DNA a close to his own as possible. Eventually the females objected.

The bible don't cover that deeply, but it wasn't thesame thing as today the children from a marrige between sister and brothers; would by a high probability be handicaped. So you can not compear it with the sitution today.

I think the problem with this question is that we are taking a world view to the bible. OK first let’s assume the story of Adam and Eve is true (for the sake of my argument). The reason today that close relatives are not allowed to marry is because it greatly increases the likely hood of defects. At first man was perfect there was no death or defects however death and defects became know to man after the fall due to sin. The first generations of man (in accordance with the bible) would have been less degenerated than us so the chance of defects was low to zero so there was no biological reason not to marry your sibling. However, as the generations past because of the (Genesis 3:6) we degenerated more so the likely hood of defects increased that’s when (Leviticus 18-20) was passed.
