Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Norway's Terror - Not a Terrorist?

They spend the first part of the thread dumping all over muslims and blaming them for this attack.

Suddenly it is announced it was a right wing conservative Christian, and boy did they ever change their tune!

"You can't judge all by the acts of one", "He isn't a true Christian" etc...

I love the No true scotsman fallacy.

I think one exchange between a new member (3 posts) and an older one sums up their site nicely:

Reading this thread made me think... What if the islamic terrorists weren't real muslims? What if the terrorists ushered in a new age of persecution for muslims? Even if they are lost, they are not so lost as many others (such as atheists). Perhaps there is some insight to be gained from this

Maybe some guy was faking it when he strapped a bomb to his chest, and yelled 'Allah Akbar' while killing 30 people. So, I don't think they are any less lost than an Athiest, we are all condemned without Jesus. Remember as a muslim their #1 goal is to bring jihad to this world, so they can bring about the coming of their 'saviour'.

Awful... It's people like the shooter, and those on that awful forum, who are driving me away from this so-called faith.

That's why I call myself a Christ-follower, not Christian. The word Christian has been sullied by many such people. Quite a few on here as well.

I'm angrier than I have ever been. Grief-filled, numb and confused. I don't know if I know any of the dead or directly exposed, though it is possible.

I think it's important to remember who Jesus was/is. And not what such sub-humans make Christianity out to be. What Breivik and his ilk say and do are not at all representative for Christ, who told us to repay hatred with love. Violence with nonviolence. Trespasses with forgiveness.

But yes, this deed drives me away from anything I see as related to the monstrous deed, it's doer and his ideological perception.

I wonder what Landover Baptist Church has done on their forum. Westboro will probably give the same usual excrement. It will be "God Hates Norway", we all know that much.

Let them come across the pond and see the compassion we show one another.

I know they're insane though. So even that might not help them change their ways. It probably won't. But if they had shown up now, today, I'm not sure they'd get back :p
People are extremely shook up. After all, this was about twice as large a portion of our population killed as the portion of the US population was killed at 9-11: And they were kids. We're worked up. Furious. Deeply grieved.
Nordahl Grieg said "We are so few in this country, every fallen is a brother and a friend" in 1940 - a statement which holds true today as well.

God! Please, answer us! WHY?

The monster planned this for nine years.

Oh dear, I SO hope they do. Then you guys would arrest them for hate speech and we would all get a respite from their trolling.

Sorry. Our laws on that topic are rather lax. They'd be protected by the police, and people in any normal situation wouldn't do much against them. The Blitz community is an exception. They might get violent. But the blitz are few and since the 80s haven't been very active. I think they'd have to go to Germany and try to preach nazi-ism or England or France. The people might yesterday and today at least go ape.... Well, crazy on them.

I used to call myself a "Follower of Christ" but even that has negative connotations and I'm not big on labels anyway.

I'm a human before a Christian and a man before a Christian. I am unique and simply myself before I decide to don a religious label to wear.

I find religion itself to be the culprit. Literal, fanatical, right-wing ideologies that interpret scripture in the most crude fashion possible to oppress, kill and destroy people. Pathetic.

That's unfortunate, I just assumed you guys had the more stringent laws on hate speech that get so many people from the USA busted while on their European mission trips/vacations for running their mouths.

Yes, thank God for fascism masquerading as "tolerance"!

Europe is big and very diverse.

Very very bad timing for such bad jokes Kat. Or if you're part of Beck's congregation.... Good grief Kat, show some respect for the dead! We just lost over 92 innocent lives, a larger portion by far of our population than you lost at 9/11, most of whom were children and youth guilty of nothing more than to be a part of the democratic process, working for more openness, more democracy and more compassion. How DARE you even make a JOKE about fascism in Norway only two days after a tragedy of this magnitude? The monster who did this was a fascist as far as I understand his ideology. He did what he did as a direct attack on democracy, tolerance and absence of fascism. If this was no joke it's sick. You should really check what it is you say before you say it. Good grief, this is not rocket science Kat.

How DARE you? Even if this was a joke it was beyond tasteless.

What is the point then?

Christianity suffers due to it being twisted to suit both right and left wing ideologies.

sorry to break it to you, but its an all or nothing faith, its either of the upmost importence or no use at all, you cant sit in the middle.

And your overreaction to it wasn't much better, to be honest. How long must everyone cater to your sensibilities until you feel enough time has passed that we can talk about concepts related to this event in a vaguely light-hearted manner? A week? Two? Should I check with you every time I want to make a joke related to facism, or Norway? It wasn't even a real joke you were replying to, but an argument (that hate-speech laws just counter fascism with fascism).

What happened was terrible. Lashing out at people because you're unhappy about it isn't making things any better. A time like this is the best time to get on with your life and show the world that even though terrorists do these things, you are strong and they will not win.
