• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am not trying to offend anyone! However I do feel a little differant about ADHD ect ect My son Bobby is 11 now and has been on SSI for many years, I see it as a gift for him and myself. a gift to him as to he is very smart in areas that most kids struggel with. He has learned so much he has gone from being in a privite school to going to reg school this year! he is still in a S ED class but he is in with the other kids most of the day. That is a big step for him.
I see it as a gift to me as to I have learned so much about who I am threw him! Being a parent and watching your child struggel is somthing I never wish on anyone, But it has made me strong. He has asked to why God made him wrong. I tell him God made him just how he wanted him. God has a plan for all of us! All of you with ADD/ ADHD are truly blessed, It might not seem it at times but in time it will come! This will able you to help others!

God Bless each of you!

I was diagnosed with ADD less than 4 months ago. At first I thought it was really bad, but then @ the encouragement of my spirit-filled doctor I got the book, 'ADD & the Bible Cure' by Dr. Dan Colbert.

It really shed some LIGHT on the matter. The fact is people with ADD are creative genuises. Winston Chruchill & Albert Eignstein had ADD to name only a few.

We can learn to manage our behavior with the Word of God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, dieting & keeping a balance in a life...which includes excercise. I only had to be on an anti-depressent (Zoloft) for one month & then with daily proper eating, taking organic supplements & vitamans, along with physical excercise (walking) & a good dose the Holy Bible I am able to accomplish much without getting too side tracked.

The book by Dr. Colbert is really good & I highly recommend. (I actually got in on CD...know wonder I've had such a hard time concentrating reading all these years...I can listen to it over and over) I'm not ashamed of my diagnosis and it sure made sense of so many struggles that I have had for past 30+ years. I know that God can heal me and help me overcome many of the symptoms & behavior patterns as I allow Him to. He made me this way, and He cares enough about me to continue molding me into what He wants me to be.

I hope that helps & encourages you.

In Him,
Julie

One of the best days of my life was the day I realized ADD is not something I need to be "cured of." It's not a disfunction or a malfunction. It's just one small piece of who I am. I'm different than someone's arbitrary "normal." So what? I struggle in situations others take for granted, but I also excel in areas where others struggle. Praise God for knowing what he was doing when he created me!

I have a friend who has ADHD, but he gets straight A's and is in honor classes in high school. All this and he doesn't take any meds for it.

Although it's kinda a stupid question here, but what does ADHD stand for?
I know ADD = Attention Deficite Disorder, but I can't remember what ADHD stands for. Thanx:thumbsup:

Many people who have Bipolar and or ADD, Are very bright and exceptionally gifted.

Many are even bordering on genious IQ's

That is a fact that is not very well known.

ADHD is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Some kids are said to be hyperactive when they have trouble sitting still for any period of time.

What encouragement I received from reading and perfect timing. ADHD still gets me really down at times. (Like now) Sometimes I wonder if I'm smart or stupid, I get so tired of the impulsiveness. The meds help, but I still do some very impulsive things that I would love to get better control over. Yesterday, my beta fish died - went to PetSmart to purchase a $3.59 beta and returned with 2 guinea pigs and their supplies. I really like those cute little furry creatures, but, spent $150. more on my credit card! Yikes!

What a beautiful way to look at it: Thank you!! my niece has add and she has many talents like she has a fantastic talent in art, and maths. Yes she can be quitw a handful at times but sometimes i think it is her age (shes 15) and without her medication she is all but clmbing the walls. i have never thought to look at it as a blessing.
God bless you and your son!!!
Thank you for putting a positive spin on this . people forget that they are still kids.

That really blessed me.

I was diagnosed when I was young with ADHD, and I recently found out (after suspecting for some time) that I also have Bi-polar.

I've always felt dumb, even though I have an iq of 136, simply because I couldn't make the grades, couldn't concentrate. Reading this, I remembered the first school I was in after I was diagnosed.

Instead of labeling me as 'special ed' like all the other schools I have gone to, they labeled me as 'special'. I was pushed harder, supported more, and only given help when I need it. I was in all advanced classes, and even taking another language (I was in 4th grade, leaning german.) and still making A's. Unfortunately we moved and I was placed in a school where if you had ADHD they stuck you in CM (content mastery) and left you alone, or did the work for you.

It was depressing, to say the least. And sadly most schools, especially public schools, are like that. I know, Ive been in 6 schools, one of them private, which was a blessing.

I do feel blessed, and I feel you are blessed even more so for taking such an open approach to it, and being so supportive of your son, it will be of big help to him in the future, beleive me.

Thank you so much.
