• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like R.E.M., so I'd also like...

... U2. Indeed, two members of REM and two from U2 (I forget who exactly, but I know Stipe of REM sung and Larry of U2 played drums) formed a group in 1992 called Automatic Baby (named after Automatic For The People and Achtung Baby, their latest CDs at the time) and played a cover of U2's One at Clinton's inaugriation.

Edit: After seeing your other posts, I've realised this post of mine is shockingly unnecessary. However ... I would encourage you to vote on Quarterfinal 1 of the battle of the bands! Hehe.

R.E.M.? *tries to think of similarly-styled bands (I'm thinking 'College Rock' here, so it's gonna get really varied)*

Well, these are what I can think of, and they range from harder than R.E.M. to soft:

Concrete Blonde (especially 'cause their name was suggested by Michael Stipe and Peter Buck plays on their 'Bloodletting' album)
The Replacements
Sugar (a side project of Hüsker Dü)
Bob Mould (Sugar's lead singer)
Peter Murphy (former lead singer of Bauhaus; check out the 'Love Hysteria' and 'Deep' albums)
Kate Bush (especially the song 'Running Up That Hill')
Afghan Whigs
Angie Aparo
B'z (a Japanese band; I recommend the songs 'Easy Come, Easy Go!' and 'Never Let You Go' first and foremost)
The Turnpike Band [a local band from Orlando; their website (http://www.turnpikerocks.com/) has both of their albums available for download in MP3 format@128kbps]
Comsat Angels (the singles 'Independence Day', 'Day One', and 'You Move Me' especially)
The Jayhawks
Guided By Voices (their song 'Hold On Hope' was featured in an episode of 'Scrubs')
The Smithereens
Echo and the Bunnymen
Dramarama (the song 'Anything, Anything' is really good)
The Jesus and Mary Chain
New Order
Monaco (a side project of New Order; check out the song 'What Do You Want From Me?')
They Might Be Giants
The Smiths
Hoodoo Gurus
Depeche Mode
The Pixies
10,000 Maniacs
Edwyn Collins
The Rembrandts
Flesh For Lulu
All About Eve
Folk Implosion
Soul Asylum
Fountains Of Wayne
Garbage
Lennon Murphy (the song 'My Beautiful' is excellent)
Leona Naess
Rachael Yamagata
Social Distortion (their later material, since it's more standard rock than punk)
Mr. Big (the songs 'Take Cover' and 'Shine' are really good)
Natalie Merchant
New Radicals
Oasis
Primitive Radio Gods (the song 'Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand' was a hit in 1996)
Duncan Sheik
Dexter Freebish

Well, that's a start.

Hahahaha! I think is a very good start. I like They Might Be Giants, but I really haven't listened much to the others. I've got lots of work to do.
