Mr Blue Sky - but I probably didn't really know much about their early stuff.

Here is the News - from around the turn of the 80s I recall and listened to online again recently. Some of their fans felt that was too much of a departure. But it was one of the first songs I taped off the radio. I'd just sit there with fingers poised on record / play for half a morning if I was off school for some reason, and start recording the moment I heard something I liked :)

But now I think what i've heard of their early hits they are better.

I'd forgotten some of these - for instance Shine a Little Love I definietly remember now I have listened to it, but I can't have heard that in decades.

I'm only finding all this out just now on the Internet. :)

A few of their songs i'd listen to now and again. Might look for Out of the Blue on Vinyl. Seems like their best album to my ears, and probably most of the songs I liked in childhood are on that.

Thanks for starting the thread.

Then there's The Diary of Horace Wimp, from their 1979 album Discovery.

ELO was pretty much the soundtrack of my teenage years. They inspired me to take up the cello in high school. Lasted a year at it then switched over to bass. Takes me to some good places every time I hear their music.

They really are. Was shocked to hear they're coming out with a new album.
Those guys aren't kids anymore. Then again, neither are the Stones.:D

Have you heard some other of their tunes like Four Little Diamonds, The Stranger" "Calling America" "So Serious" ? Early 80's songs.

What is BOP if you don't mind me asking, one of their albums? Sorry for being dumb :)

Oh its ok, I see above Balance of Power.

I wouldn't remember all the song titles, I just heard them on the radio, back in the 70s / 80s .But if I heard one or two I'd likely know if I'd heard it. :)

Looking at a vinyl double album on ebay.

Cool, what kind of bass do you have? And what kinds of music do you play?
:)
I heard that ELO was going to be touring sometime this year, supposed to come out with new album too

Unfortunately, I haven't played bass since high school (graduated in 1976). I reckon I could pick it back up fairly quickly if I got a bass guitar, even though I played the big standup bass in high school.

As for touring, apparently ELO (or at least Jeff Lynne) was on the Grammy Awards the other night and I missed it...

Yes. I watched the Grammys (something I usally avoid like the dentist) just to see "Jeff Lynne's ELO". It was quite excellent. They did Evil Woman and part of Mr. Blue Sky. Lynne was in good voice, and Paul McCartney was caught "jamming out" in the audience. When Paul saw that he was on camera, he sheepishly grinned and sat back down. The best moment of the whole show, I thought. Well, that and AC/DC getting the opening slot. Despite the usual awful stuff from your Kaynes and a myrad of really bad country singers, it was a pretty good show.
