• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Just wanted to share my story.

I have a 6year old brother whose got autism- he talks 2 himself about rubbish, that he's picked up from somewhere, its abit like a story! He's also got dyspraxia, so he is unable to write propally. He also can't read yet as he's behind development of children of his own age. It's soo hard to take him out for a trip or woteva, as he is no good in those situations. And it can be embarrasing for the family, because people can critise so much.

He's now attending a residential school, which is all payed for, amzingly. But we have had to do an extreme amount of fighting for the placement. He's been there since september now, and he is changing as a person. He is much calmer and happier. He still is talking to himself, but its more controlled now. But it's not cured.

My reason for writing this is just that God is AMAZING! He's given my brother this school placement to benefit all. The thing is, Gods created my brother the way he is and i wouldnt want to change that for anything, he's the most amaazing brother ever.

As someone said; "He's probably closer to God than we realise". And thats the same with all people with Autism! So don't forget it. God created us the way we are for a purpose. To love God withall our heart.

Thankyou!

Please don't see Aspergers Syndrome as a Disorder... It can be used to your advantage... a lot of people with Aspergers have a higher IQ than others. If you and your husband were not having problems before you were diagnosed then there is nothing to worry about. There are many things that Autistic people can do that others can't. Also many famous people have Aspergers syndrome: Isaac Newton, Einstein, Bartok (20th century composer), Daniel Tammet (British Savant) and many more famous people.

If you want more information about it a great place to start is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspergers_Syndrome and http://www.wrongplanet.net/.

I hope I have been of some assistance.

I think that it is wonderful that you are so close to your brother. You sound like a great sister to him , so caring and kind ! :)
Thanks ever so much.
Me and my younger sister do everything we can to help him! And don't worry about ur A.S. I just believe that God has great plans for you, and he's made u who u r 4 a reason. I really believe that u can do anything u set ur mind 2. U and ur husband are blessed 2 hav each other 2 start with! Uv obviously been put together.

Just keep ur spirits up and faith in God. Don't let A.S get u down. I cant imagine what my brother will be like when he gets older. But I know God has planned his life 4 him!

I just pray that u can fight any negative feelings that u feel, and look on the brighter side of life. Just keep a smile upon ur face and keep faith. I pray that u just believe that u truly are special!

Ur in my thoughts, and if u ever need anything, or sumone 2 talk 2 im here! I may not be much help, but dont feel that ur alone!!!!

All my love! xx
