• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I keep falling into sin for some reason

It's happened for the second time in less than a week now that I've given into lust. I dont know what keeps causing it either. It just seems like lately my mind has been going more towards sexual fantasies lately which eventually leads to me dwelling on them and giving into sin. Like i said idk what has caused it but one thing that i thought about which sucks is that fact that it's going to happen again regarding the thoughts coming back. I know I'll just regret it afterwards every time I give into it as well. It's such a battle too knowing how much my flesh wants these desires and even when I try to fight back like for example reading psalms while it was happening it wasn't what I wanted to do. I could go into detail but really I'm just asking for prayers and advice. Thanks

I am a single hetero male in my 60s, still have desires, knowing also I don’t want to bring another person into sin ( Matthew 7:1-12, Matthew 23:36-40, Romans 13:8-10 etc.). I confess my sins all the same ( 1 John 1:5-10), pray for myself, for my neighbor, & for evangelism ( 1 Timothy 2:1-6, Matthew 6:9-13, Matthew 9:36-38 etc,). Colossians 1:10-24 ( all of Colossians 1 actually) is a good overview of seeing the living aspect of faith in a lifetime. The key is to avoid extremes like panicking or reckless complacency.

Please tell me you're not confusing simple biologically-driven urges and need for sexual release with lust. It's not the same thing.
late response sorry i know. It just gets tougher as the days go on and so much to the point that i gave in again after battling lustful thoughts last night for a couple hours probably. It's slip ups like these that lead me to thinking of taking some type of medication or something to just kill my libido completely.

Again, I must ask what you mean by "lustful thoughts". A simple biological urge for sex, to put it cleanly, isn't a sin, nor is conjuring up a fantasy woman to fantasize about in a sexual manner. Only sexual thoughts about an actual woman would be sinful.

The key thing I believe is that as long as you put the humanity of women first as the Lord did ( John 8:1-12 etc.), as opposed to sex objects, your heart is right. I believe much of what Paul says in Romans 7 comes into play here. He is telling us the whole truth but many of us will struggle in the process. If we love our neighbor we pray for their salvation ( Matthew 22:36-40, Matthew 9:36-38, 1 Timothy 2:1-6 etc.). Is not lowering a beautiful woman to our base desire actually lowering their humanity to an object of our sinful desire? ( to understand Matthew 5:27-30 purely spiritually). Struggling with lustful images is rough but the golden rule must be stronger ( Matthew 7:1-12).

I just want to add that whatever a Christian may know about sin & adultery, we must take care not to assume our neighbors caught up in adultery are monsters. Pimps, predators etc. are obvious monsters ( although we must still remember forgiveness in the Lord’s Prayer etc.). In this fallen world many are lonely, have intimacy dysfunctions ( I know I do), may be genuinely loving but lustful also etc etc.

John 16:33
