harry reid has seniority in the senate, has done a fine job overall, in a position to do more than anyone for nevada

and sharron angle is extreme- wants to end safety nets, calls social security welfare, does not care about the environment...

but she is prolife and we are told by our Church and bishops that this issue is not just one among many- IT IS THE ISSUE

how many thousands of human beings are killed everyday ?

so, although i think she is crazy and extreme and will be harmful i will have to vote for her because she defends life and harry reid does not

the latest ad against angle trys to slam her because she wants to protect the children created by God through incest and rape- angle at least understands that this is not the fault of the children who are being killed

pray to end all abortion :groupray:

Gee, according to this, Harry Reid is pro-life

Regarding specific issues, Reid believes that Roe vs. Wade should be overturned and in 1999, he voted against an amendment that explicitly expressed support for Roe v. Wade.[17] He has stated that he believes in a restricted right to abortion, stating that "abortions should be legal only when the pregnancy resulted from incest, rape, or when the life of the woman is endangered".[18] He has also voted several times to ban the "intact dilation and evacuation" or "partial-birth abortion" procedure

It might be worth keeping in mind that "None of the Above" is a ballot option in the state of Nevada. If you are dissatisfied with both candidates, you can go into the voting booth and pull the lever for the "None of the Above" option, and those votes are tallied and can be used to send a message to both parties in the hopes that they rethink the type of candidate they nominate in the future.

Also, it's worth mentioning that Catholics can vote for pro-choice candidates if they think there are proportionate reasons to do so, and are voting for the candidate in spite of and not because of his/her stance on abortion.

Having said that, Harry Reid is actually not even entirely pro-choice. He's voted for the pro-life position on several abortion related bills through the years. Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia with more details:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Reid#cite_note-15 Regarding specific issues, Reid believes that Roe vs. Wade should be overturned and in 1999, he voted against an amendment that explicitly expressed support for Roe v. Wade.[17] He has stated that he believes in a restricted right to abortion, stating that "abortions should be legal only when the pregnancy resulted from incest, rape, or when the life of the woman is endangered".[18] He has also voted several times to ban the "intact dilation and evacuation" or "partial-birth abortion" procedure.[19] Reid has voted against the Nelson-Hatch-Casey amendment in the Senate which proposed to ban federal funding of health care plans that cover abortion,[20] and has supported embryonic stem cell research.[21]

Personally, were I a resident of the state of Nevada, I'd vote for Senator Reid.

Sometimes we have to be careful with that. You see back in the 1990s when I was considered the "inspector" on the voting board, one wiley politician legally changed his name to "None of the Above" (can't remember how he spelled it, but that's the pronounciation). The entire voting board had to inform every voter of that that year! ;)

Well, perhaps her views are extreme.

Hi there!

I do try very hard to avoid arguing politics on message boards. The last thing I want to do is to alienate my newly found friends with discussion that seems to always end up in hurt feelings.

That being said: I was in Las Vegas for a little bit in August and saw some of the commercials for both Senatorial candidates. What a nasty campaign they have going there. Bases on what I saw in the commercials, I wouldn't vote for either one of them.

One longs for the days when politics were conducted on a more polite playing field and the ads were issue based........

You should do some research into long past U.S. political campaigns. Some of them make these look like Church picnics! Many were attacking people's families, making awful insinuations, and gossip ruled the day. It was really, really awful. I don't know how those folks from back then could even sleep at night from all the mudslinging.

Reid voted against tax cuts; he voted for the stimulus bill, and the health care bill, and he is in favor of the energy bill, and the legalization of illegal immigrants.

I'd say that's at least 5 reasons to vote against him.

Not on a moral issue, which is what the OP is having a problem with.

I guess it just depends on one's perspective.
And we have seen your perspective.

Doesn't matter, they are still good reasons.

Well then I'll throw a moral reason in, and make it an even 6: He supports baby killing.

As has already been shown, he does not. He favors repeal of Roe V Wade and voted to ban partial birth abortions.

It was worse in the 19th Century. On one occasion one senator beat another nearly to death on the floor of the senate. During Andrew Jackson's run for president his opponents ran adds accusing his wife of sexual immorality.

Can we not get politics to hearken back to the days of old, when men dueled one another, with flintlock pistols in hand?! The last man standing becomes the new office-holder. ;)

His back room socialism and campaign mud slinging exposes Reid for who he is. A self interested career politician. His actions in policy consistently contradict the guidances of the Catholic Bishops. That is clear.

A Sharon type may be just what the "Sin City" state needs to regain a bit of morality. If I were a resident of NV I would vote for an opponent of Reid simply on principle.

You are free to vote for whoever you want. You do not have to vote for Angle. You have freedom to vote for who you want. It is a secret ballot.
