• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Your symptoms sound a lot like my mother-in-law's and she has the same diagnosis. Her doctor did recommend surgery, but it has some pretty big risks, so she's trying to use other methods like diet to control it so hopefully she can avoid surgery. Still having a rough go, though.

Have you tried raw apple cider vinegar to alleviate the immediate symptoms? I know it won't fix everything, but it can be a huge help with getting the reflux under control. Just mix about 1/4 cup with 1/2 cup or so of water and a bit of honey or sugar if you can't stand the taste. It's nasty stuff, but really helps reduce the acid.

I've used a tsp of baking soda mixed well in a cup of water. It only works sometimes. The vinegar sounds interesting. I'm trying to figure out how an acidic treatment can help an acidic condition. It might be one of the only things I haven't tried. God bless.

I know - it sounds totally counter-intuitive. But it really does work. I don't fully grasp it, but I know that when people eat too much of things that kill the acid in the gut (such as dairy, for example) the acid production goes into overdrive to make up for it (or something like that, lol), causing some to splash upwards. So perhaps adding the vinegar helps balance the gut and stop the immediate production of more acid, but without causing more pain. It is not a nice feeling to drink the vinegar during acid reflux, but within a few seconds and especially after a few minutes it really helps calm everything down nicely.

That's interesting. I try to watch what I eat. I also use two nexium a day. I'll be having an endoscopy soon to see if things are better down there. Almost forgot, I also don't eat four hours before bed. Something I used to do was elevate the head of the bed 6 inches. Haven't got around to that yet. God bless everyone. :holy: :groupray:

I take meds for mine. However the one side effect I notice is because my meds lower my acid level, I tend to cough up what I can only describe as "poop seeds". They smell like feces. Its gross. It happens more often because of the belching that seems to occur.

My endoscopy told me the same thing- Hiatial Hernia. Haven't had GERD for years, since taking some herbs to balance the bacteria in my gut, including fresh fruit and vegetables in my diet, and cleaning out my liver and gall bladder with the olive oil protocol.

If you ensure your liver and gall bladder are cleared of stones, it can deliver the required amounts of bile to counter the hydrochloric acid your stomach produces and complete the digestion process. This solves a slew of other health issues as well.

Pharmaceutical drugs are never good for you in the long run. Need to solve a health issue at its source, and not deal with the symptoms of your body trying to protect itself.

You should get tested for parasites and for the bacterial content of you GI. I myself have had massive problems with my GI that I did the proper tests and found out that I had two parasites and I am certain they caused massive problem to the Gut flora and thus when I did a test for that they found out that my gut flora was massively out of balance and thus causing great problems. The test you want to do is this. metametrix dot com/test-menu/profiles/gastrointestinal-function/dna-stool-analysis-gi-effects since that will have a good look inside your gut and see what is inside there. You could go to that site and get info for your doctor or use it to find a doctor in you area that already has the info and is more likely to do it right.

Currently I am talking some probiotics to help re-introduce the right balance in my stomach and it is helping to fix some problems I have been having, but it will take a long time fix the massive damage.

I recently (for months) had a bought with GERD...even to the point of aspirating and being unable to breathe well... it was due to a medicine that I have to take... but also because I can't take most meds anyway, I sought "natural" remedies.

I researched and found that honey will not only soothe the stomach but will heal, over time, the esophagus (which is damaged by GERD and can lead to cancer).... I also read about how most GERD is caused by a lack of balance of digestive enzymes... and how vinegar will balance the PH.... so, with that in mind, I use ONLY vinegar/oil-vinegarette on my salad each night.

So what I learned that helped me I post, in that it may help you too.
Eat smaller meals (but more of them? :D)
Use vinegar on food for balance.
Don't eat for several hours before bed (for me that's 6--but I have to have a little something when I take medicine )
Don't lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking medicine.
If you're a side sleeper, distress is less if you lie on your left side. (Go figure)
Honey before bed, after meals and whenever your gut is irked WORKS!

Feel better.
