• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Probably happening because OCD demands 100% certainty. Faith can give you reasonable proof but not 100% certainty. OCD is sometimes called the doubting disease for this reason. Now...Christianity has much more credibility and reasons to believe than islam. Jesus loves you . Christianity is the only religion based on a relationship with God not just rules. It is the only religion that takes care of the problem of sin and justice. islam is a 9th century deception. Years before the apostle Paul wrote in the book of galations that even if an angel came and preached any other gospel, let them be accursed!

I am glad you are getting professional help. You may actually need a tweak or higher dosage of meds to get better control of the OCD. Praying for you~

It's good to know that you are doing better.
On the issue of Christianity and Islam, I think it's rather dangerous swtiching between religions or faith especially if it is Christianity as it is almost like you are rejecting Christ when you turn. Remember, if salvation could be received through any other way i.e Law, then Christ died for nothing. I would pray to the one true God, whose Son is Jesus and find rest in Him. I have been struggling with Scrupulosity over the last few months and constant prayer as well as not relying on my own feelings but on God's word and His being has helped a lot, and I pray that you may find rest and delight in God.

May His grace and peace be with you.

Hi Catseyes, Stay on course with treating the OCD with meds. and be sure you are also learning how to do Exposure and response prevention in regard to treating the OCD.
As far as switching back and forth between these two faith positions it may very well be the OCD trying to get to make sure you cover all the bases because if you don't you have to deal with anxiousness.
Your decision to follow Jesus Christ should be based upon whether or not you believe that He is exactly who He said He was. The other option means that He wasn't being truthful about who he was. If you believe Him to be "God with us/Immanuel" then there cannot be any room for Islam in your life, no matter how much your OCD might try to scare you about that. Following Christ or Islam shouldn't be because of that out of whack scary feelings of uncertainty that OCD creates in us. It should be because one or the other of these faiths rings TRUE to us. Jesus asked this question: "Who do you say that I am?" The answer to that question will lead us to choose to be a believer or follower of him or to reject Him totally. Once we've made that choice we mustn't allow OCD feelings or thoughts turn us away from it. Faith is a decision a choice. It is not a warm fuzzy reassuring feeling. There will be times in every believers life where they experience doubt. But to follow Christ even when doubts and fears assail is evidence of real faith in action. Being a Christian is about full and complete allegiance to Christ as both Lord and Savior and rejecting anything which opposes His Word. I'll be praying for you that God will provide discernment for you in this matter so that you'll be able to press past it and make your own faith decision without OCD confusing the matter. The One I am asking is faithful to do just that. Hugs to you!! Mitzi

I honestly don't know how to react on this. I'm not offended. and my faith is Christ......I have never came across someone who switches like that. But like Kay said......It is the relationship that tug's at me....I'm not condemning you for anything. You can speak your mind and I think you deserve a unbiased response. I just know nothing of Islam and all I know is Jesus......It sounds like the devil is tugging one way and the Holy Ghost the other. Hmmmm. But rest assure that we as christians are here for you.

Thank you all for your replies ... i hear voices and the voices push me where to go
One voice wants me to fallow Islam and another voice wants me to fallow Christianity.
There are somethings in my past that pushes me away from Christianity
My trust was broken and i feel like am getting too close to that happening again if i fallow Jesus
I know its not Jesus's fault its the fault of the person that broke my trust

Am on medication for the voices but they don't always work and they think that stress makes it worse

I have bipolar with psychotic features and I get voices too. But mine are in remission. Ya it's pretty tough not to listen to them....Really when there commanding voices that you think are God because they sound loud and deep. This is the illness of the mind we have....and we have to learn to ignore them....If you want to forgive that person who wronged you and be a christian, ask God for help.....I see nothing to gain from Islam.....I don't judge the one's who live in peace but I follow the Bible and Jacob's line. I know it's got to be rough but God knows you have a mental illness and doesn't judge you because of it......

Catseyes, yes there is only one God, and that is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His name is Jesus. There is no other way to the Father, except through Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life.

In the name of Jesus I bind and rebuke the spirits of false religion.

Well then you cannot be a Christian. You are a believer and follower of Islam. But in making that decision, you have to come to terms with the reason Jesus was crucified, (and I'm speaking historically here) which was that he claimed to be Messiah and said things like: "before Abraham was I AM", and "I and my Father on One." And "Woman, I forgive you your sins." And, "I keep sending you prophets but you keep killing them..etc.etc." This is the reason the Jewish religious leader of His day sought to crucify Him. Not that He didn't know that this was going to happen. He came for that very purpose. The prophet Isaiah recorded the events of Christ's life some 700 years before they ever occurred. Isaiah 53. The historical date of the writing of the book of Isaiah has been very recently confirmed. So based upon this the answer to the question Christ posed; "Who do you say that I AM?, we can answer it in the following ways; a. liar, b. lunatic, c. LORD. I choose to believe He is exactly who He claimed to be - Lord.
Just thought I'd share the reasons I've chosen to be a believer and follower of Jesus Christ as my Lord and King in case you've never considered these things. Praying for you. Mitzi
At this moment i feel pushed towards Islam the reason i choose Islam is that i have never believed that Jesus is the son of God
There is only one God and that is Allah
