  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have no talent.
When quarantine first began I thought it’d be great to practice my talents.
Until I realized I didn’t have any.
I’ve always wanted to be a dancer since I was a little girl, but of course due to circumstances I never was able.
Ive been in a class for 1 1/2 years but since I have no flexibility the teacher doesn’t do much with me.
I’ve wanted to play piano but once again due to circumstances wasn’t able to.
I’ve wanted to sing since my voice is halfway decent but I will never be able to practice it.
Plus I’m simply too old to have a talent, all my friends who do have been doing it since they were quite young. It’s too late for me to do anything with myself.
What to do? This is making me feel absolutely awful.

Why is artistry important to you? The three interests you mentioned are related. :)

What standard are you using to gauge your proficiency? Do you want to do this for enjoyment or something more?

Yours in His Service,

~bella

Well, there it is there!

Art is very subjective...you can be a genius...who knows.

You just got to hone it, I guess. I'm in the same boat. I need to step my game up.

Art and people...hmmmmmm...all kinds of potential there!

There are tons of things you can learn to do as an adult...

After I became disabled I bought myself a good DSLR camera and Photoshop, and became a self taught hobbyist on it all, and have great fun... When I'm doing really good I can get out and take photographs some, and when I'm not doing well I can do photo processing as well as photomanipulation for fun.

This guy Flew Designs is who got me into the photomanipulation aspect:

If your eyesight is good you can take up counted cross stitch (some really good stuff in that world, for real), try your hand at knitting - if your good you could even sell cable knit scarves and hats on etsy... if not it's just a fun hobby.

There's wood working, or just try your hand at various baking enterprises... I dearly love to bake, (amazing what can be done with a little flour, water and yeast) and some of the new stuff that is available for the home baker/ pastry chef is pretty darn cool - kitchen gadgets never get old and freinds, family, neighbors and church groups will never tire of home baked goods.. :)

Expand your horizons some - there's a whole world of fun stuff to learn and to do!

While there are those truly gifted with a voice, speed, teaching, artistic perspective, etc., most of what we think about talent is practice and discipline. I play guitar, have for 50 years. I feel if I have any gift at all it's the desire to play. The guitar has become a constant in my life, people come and go, she's there always. I play with friends, church, other venues with those who do it professionally and after all this time I've found I'm as good as or better than many others. My guitar friend responds in a sweeter tone the more time I spend touching her. God blesses our efforts. No wand appeared and bestowed perfect pitch or the ability to pick up any instrument and play like a virtuoso. Find something you enjoy and practice, practice, practice.
In Christ

1 Cor, 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

Talent and the creation of art, comes when the desire to doing something over comes the will not to do something.

I am looking after my 91 will be 92(on monday) mom, and that takes quite some personal time. But i have paintings and work to do so, i find time to do what is in me, that has to come out. True i am not as productive right now. But i just did not stop and say i can not do my work now i will wait, find away if it is in you.

SeekingGlory,

As others here thought, none of us is talented at everything. But most people are good at something (or several "somethings") which most other people are not very good with.

You seem to have set your sites on musical artistry, but you might turn out to be terrific at something else, no?? Explore and find out.

Heck, one your talents may be the ability to be transparent as you have been on this thread.

Pray that Abba will use your struggles to help encourage others with the same or similar things.

Your desire is for talents that are outward and for show. God looks at your heart. How about a "talent" for encouraging people who are hurting? A "talent" for loving the unlovely? A "talent" for helping out when no one else can be bothered? You may say that you do not have those gifts either. If you are born again, you most certainly do. Lord Jesus encourages, loves perfectly and is our true helper in time of need. He's delighted to find people who will cooperate with Him so that He can help people through us. Let Jesus lead you in every aspect of your life. You will know fulfilment that no "show-piece" talent can provide.
