• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know what it's like to have this disease, I have bipolar disorder. I take depakote for it, it's a multi purpose drug actually. They use it for seizures, migranes and other problems. I still seem to have alot of ups and downs though. In life everybody has ups and downs though but it's when they are too extreame all the time that you know you have a problem.

I myself am a lonely person, I find that there are alot of people in society that dont understand and fear me simply because of the problems I have. The closest friend's I have are people that I can talk to on here. I have one friend on the outside that I know through my parents friend's, he is a state trooper.

I find it depressing as I am not able to work because of my condition, my psychiatrist does not recomend it. I live on ssi and social security so a family is out of the question. I just try to find constructive ways to deal with it.

MY DEAR BROTHER IN CHRIST,

Yes, it is true that many people in society don't understand the problems you are facing--BUT PRAISE GOD THAT HE DOES! The trick is, of course, to see yourself through God's eyes and NOT through the eyes of the ignorant and fearful members of society who perhaps treat you with suspicion.
There is, of course, a reason behind all that we are and all that happens to us. Your job is to find out what God has in Mind for you.
Each of us has a unique ministry for which God is preparing us, and you need to find out what your's is. As Paul writes, "BLESSED BE THE GOD AND FATHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE FATHER OF MERCIES AND GOD OF ALL COMFORT, WHO COMFORTS US IN ALL OUR AFFLICTION, SO THAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO COMFORT THOSE WHO ARE IN ANY AFFLICTION, WITH THE COMFORT WITH WHICH WE OURSELVES ARE COMFORTED BY GOD."(I Cor 1:3,4)
For example, i am an Alcoholic/Addict whom our Lord--ALL PRAISE TO HIS HOLY NAME FOREVER AND EVER!!!!!--has delivered from his addictions and led into the light of His Kingdom. Based on what God has done in my life, i, in turn, can be an instrument of God's Peace in the lives of others who are in bondage to alcohol or other drugs. (If you think that you are not understood and are feared by some in society, try being a drunk and a junkie sometime! ;) )
How this TRUTH will manifest itself in your life, my brother, i, of course, can't say. What i CAN say is the first step you need to take in finding out what God has in mind for you, is to get yourself COMPLETELY, TOTALLY, AND ENTIRELY focused on God and on building a close, trusting, and open relationship with Him 24/7. When that is accomplished, He will be able to begin the process of using YOU as an instrument of His Peace, in whatever way he has in mind for you.
Your Bipolor illness is a rather common one--resulting from a chemical imbalance in the brain as you know. Once you develop your close relationship with the Lord, and discover His will for your life, i think you will find a MULTITUDE of opportunities to share what God has done in your life--HIS PROVIDING YOU WITH HAPPINESS, PEACE, AND JOY AS YOU BECOME MORE AND MORE TOTATALLY SURRENDERED TO HIS WILL--with others who perhaps are also Bipolar and also, like you, struggling with the loneliness and perhaps depression which usually accompany being "different" in some way from the majority of people around them.
"GOD DON'T MAKE NO JUNK!" He knows what He is doing; your job is to find out what that is and run with it.
:prayer: MAY OUR LOVING LORD, GOD, AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST BLESS YOU WITH HAPPINESS, PEACE, AND JOY BEYOND YOUR WILDEST DREAMS, AND MAY HE GIVE YOU THE CALLING AND THE ABILITY TO SHARE THAT WITH OTHERS! :prayer:

MUCH LOVE TO YOU IN CHRIST OUR LORD,

Well do you want some good news? and I've never found anyone in the same need as me, the only difference is I am allowed to work. Heres me:- I suffer the same but in England its called Manic Depression, I am also on Depakote 1,500mg so quite a high dose, not the orangy tablets, 3 pinky ones a day, I also take it for siezures as luckily it works for that aswell, Like you yes I still have ups and downs, real highs then really deep depressions this though hasn't been as bad since they upted the dose from 1.000mg to 1,500, it seems to has leveled my chemicals in the brain up a lot more. Like you I'm quiet, lonely and don't have any close friends except one on here, I'm afraid of people knowing. I'm on sick benefit but can earn a bit, this is how I did it, started working voluntary as a qualified counsellor, which then led to part time Counselling with people who suffered depression up to bereavement. I found by doing this my mind wouldn't think of my own problems but I got comfort in helping others. Luckily I was a qualified counsellor. But for you what do u enjoy doing, look for voluntary work in those areas and it may help.

If you want a chat anytime I'm on Yahoo and MSN Messenger or Pm me, it always helps to chat with someone who knows how you feel. Id love to have a good friend who understands me too, as so many don't understand our moods. OK

For me, I have been told by family, and friends of family, for a very long time, (Well since around age eight when I mentally snapped BTW, no one noticed...) that I am overly emotional.

I also learned at an early age that God really likes me to pray. The on my knees, crying my eyes out snot running down my face, compassionately feeling for those I pray for, emotionally draining kind of prayer! It is hard to do, because of the emotional exhaustion, but when I pray, God blesses my "emotional ness", and I pray so deeply from my heart! I know He hears my prayers, as He hears the prayers of so very many others.

My beloved describes my faith as "child like faith". I think it's more like I am going through my spiritual teen years, lol :) spiritually, I am 17 years old! :) Almost 18, lol :) My point is, allow Him in and search yourself fully. I am sure the answer is closer than you think!

I will keep you in my prayers, and am putting you on my prayer list right now that the Lord helps you to glorify Him by finding your gift(s)! It is never easy, but isn't God worth it!!!
