• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There is no cure for OCD, no. However, you can learn how to curb your OCD symptoms to the point where they are manageable. You might never be OCD free, but you can lessen its impact on your life. You can get to the point where it isn't a serious issue anymore. If you're not the type of person who can figure things out on their own, then therapy and medication are two routes that you can take that can be very effective.

I think there is a cure out there, but we just haven't found it yet. I do know that some things help tremendously though. Magnesium and zinc REALLY helped me a lot! Also, taking your omegas (flaxseed oil, fish oil, etc.) helps too. Chelating yourself with cilantro, garlic, chlorella, etc. is helpful. Taking Luvox and Risperdal has also helped me too. Also, a good Christian counselor with experience treating OCD patients is a must. I found one who has been an absolute Godsend for me. BTW, for everybody out there, I think we need to join any research studies about OCD that are out there so that a cure can be found. I myself am trying to join a Johns Hopkins study that requires no travel but studies genetics and OCD. Sorry to be so long winded but there's really a lot to say on this issue.

I truly believe that if managed effectively (and with the help of God) that OCD can be drastically minimized in one's life. I'd like to think of it as just another chronic condition that needs to be managed and not allowed to get out of control. If it's allowed to get out of control then things get really nasty. For lack of a better example let's take asthma as I have personal experience with that. I've had asthma for many years now. It got to a point where it was completely out of control - even with medication. I wasn't taking care of myself, I became overweight and was very stressed out. After I ended up in the hospital over it I decided I needed a change. So, I started eating better. I lost a bunch of weight and got into shape. I made sure I had some relaxation time built into my life. I can pretty much exercise to the extent that I want to in pretty much any situation and be fine now. I still have medication around but I never need it. Do I walk around claiming to be cured of asthma? Well, no. But, I do go around claiming that because of my lifestyle changes and approach to the problem I've minimized asthma to where it basically no longer has a hold on me.

There are people out there who are saying they've done the exact same thing with OCD. In fact, I just met a person a day or two ago who has told me this. About 10 years ago, she was about my age and was facing many of the same fears I'm dealing with my OCD (it was so neat to compare notes and see some of that). She had OCD bad. The only difference is that she has found a way (without medication) to completely minimize OCD in her life. It simply doesn't have a hold on her anymore. She now is an author, motivational speaker and spends her time trying to help and encourage others who have OCD. Now, how in the world did that happen? Is she cured? Well, I don't even think she would tell you that she's 100% cured of OCD. But she would tell you that she has found a way to overcome her fears. She gives the credit to the Lord.

This is the kind of person I want to learn from. I'm trying to be positive about all of this. I have a lot I want to accomplish in my life and I need to boot OCD out of the way so I can get on with my life. I will continue to fight this thing until my dying day. And hopefully learn how to better and more effectively manage it along the way too. I now believe that's more possible then I ever could have imagined before!

I agree with the others, in the natural, no. I think it can be very effectively managed and minimized. I do believe in miracle healing for any so called "incurable disease." So no, in the natural, yes in the spiritual. Have I experienced a total miracle healing through prayer? No, but I am praying for that and will continue to do so. I have experienced 3 supernatural healings in my life for other physical issues. Why not, OCD?
